Do you know people fleeing dc?

Yup. NIH scientists. They are permanent residents, but their research funding got chopped, so back to Europe they go. We're losing our smartest people.

Same. If more layoffs happen, some people will probably leave out of necessity. I doubt many people are just up and leaving because they think things are going to go south here--most people do still have jobs, plus mortgages, kids, and a community. It's not as simple as just taking off at the first sign of trouble.

FWIW we are thinking about leaving, but it's a move we thought we'd make down the road anyway (to be closer to family) and there's a lot that needs to come together for it to happen. We won't be discussing with anyone unless and until it's a done deal, of course.

We aren’t feds and we’re currently employed, but I see the writing on the wall. I don’t imagine there is a good future for my kids in the USA, especially DC at this time. I recognize how privileged we are to be able to do this, and honestly I don’t want to move my family overseas but I think it’s for the best.

This is my boycott of the US. I’m absolutely disgusted by what’s happening and I don’t want my tax dollars to support it.

Do you think their future will be any better in Europe? No snark, honestly asking if you believe it will be and why? If you read news and have family friends or any work or social affiliations in Europe, you will hear the disappointments in Europe and want to move out, just as you are thinking to move from US of A.

I am very concerned about the administration’s anti-female, anti-science, anti-intellectual, anti-gay, anti-poor, anti-democratic … stances. I honestly don’t know where the better place to be is, but for now I’ll place my bets on the EU versus the US.

If I’m wrong, we’ll come back. We are lucky to have these options—for now anyway.

We are in the early planning stages, talking to global recruiters, looking up school admission policies. This won't be a one-term president situation. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think I am.

I know people who are thinking about it but haven't made a move yet. I'm sure there are others that are considering their options. I think we will see more movement when school lets out and the dust settles a bit on the federal cuts.

The goal of every person in the D.C. area is to move back home someday.

Here is the official memo:

https://s3.documentcloud.org/documents/25545392/omb-opm-memo.pdf

Phase II plans are due on April 14th (it’s right in the memo. Read it).

Large RIFs will begin soon after.

It’s about to get much, much worse.

They all said that they were moving to Canada in 2016.
