Bought a Tesla now I hate it and want to get rid of it but will lose money on it

Suspension is terrible on my Y. Think it’s a safe car unless the impact explodes the battery or you accidentally go in reverse at your lake house due to lack of gear stalk. Think plug in hybrid is the way to go for my next car. Range anxiety is real. Going to superchargers is kinda not fun.

Signed a DCUM

We've taken ours on multiple long trips, no range anxiety, chargers are literally everywhere like gas stations at every major exit. On the other hand, Kia we rented a couple of times before would give me horrible range anxiety because scarce chargers that are hard to find, often driving extra time off of the exit only to find half of the chargers broken. Tesla is still the most practical choice for the EV in this country based on its charging network alone and a decent range. if you drive locally and charge at home there is zero range anxiety. It's all political propaganda is disgusting. Coercing working class people to sell their perfectly functional cars at a huge loss to make a political statement in this economy is tone deaf.

BIL left Tesla a few years ago and recently purchased a Kia for his first EV. He has the money to purchase anything he wants. I was surprised he didn’t choose a Tesla given he was an engineer for them, there are Tesla chargers everywhere and it is harder to charger the Kia. When asked he really didn’t want to comment on his reasoning. It really was a head scratcher. Not so much anymore. He obviously knew what some of us didn’t after seeing Musk in action. It’s not politics. Musk is just an awful awful human.

Sounds like your BIL wasn't happy with his employer, so what? Why should anyone care? If I used to work at Chase and they wronged me and now I am telling you to close all your accounts there, will you?

I think you’re alone in this, OP.

Do you live in rural Texas? (But how, they won’t able to afford it).
I notice, here in Nova, the amount of Tesla on the street is definitely way .. way less compared to 2-3 yeara ago.

Rubbish. They are literally everywhere in NoVa. A desire for political schadenfreude does not replace reality.

Definitely not if you pay attention. I drive alot and around here. There are still tesla but its way less compared the first time they launched it .. and it is supposedly more since they produce more and time passed, but I don’t see it.

There are still sitting in the garages and driveways in my neighborhood like before. None of them are gone. And these are people who can afford to lose a few grand.

I saw a sticker on a Tesla that said “I bought it before he went crazy.”

The issue is that now your Tesla doesn't read as "I'm a good person" to your peer group. That's a you problem.

But no, I don't think you should commit insurance fraud to recoup the costs in your stupid car.

+1. I’m amazed at all the people with Tesla’s who are JUST NOW realizing this. The guy has been a POS for years.

+1 I started to hate him during the Thai boys soccer cave in when Musk called the rescue team member a pedo because he declined to use Musk's minisub.

That event showed how little and petty Musk is, just like Trump. Two peas in a pod. That what is in 2018. I refused to even look at a Tesla after that.

I don't "hate" anyone, but that same incident alerted me to his problematic mental state. Also I don't blame anyone for owning a Tesla. I do judge Cybertruck drivers because those cars are just complete shite

you can judge whoever you want for whatever reasons you want. Nobody cares. I am tired of threats and people saying I have to get rid of my Tesla to "drive in peace". Why shouldn't I drive in peace exactly? What exactly should I be afraid of?

Nothing. Live your life. You sound like someone who isn't great at empathizing and making socio-emotional connections, and therefore is not vulnerable to feeling bad about yourself at the best of times. People around you know this about you, already. If that's your personality, losing your Tesla won't cure you.

Why should I feel bad about myself for driving a f-ing car? Do you feel bad about yourself eating meet from factory farms? Wearing clothes made by slave labor? Eating food harvested by underpaid migrants? Benefiting from your stocks that had gone up in last 2 decades based on unethical practices of various companies constituting these funds? You benefit all day from unethical things and never question where everything you need for your comfort living comes from and who pays your salary deep down and invests to keep you employed.

If you want to make a political stance, go protest.

TSLA bagholder right here.

Have you thought about selling and taking your losses? I know it's hard to do but Tesla's stock inflated a lot after the election based on literally nothing. At the very least I would expect it to drop back down to pre-election levels if not lower given the drop off in demand.

DP. I already sold. It's tanking right now. I don't want to be part of the volatility. Also, as enthused as I was about Tesla's electric innovation and wide market appeal, I am getting a little tired of the limitations of lithium battery technology. So politics aside, I'm not sure I want to stick with that sort of investment long-term. I wish we had a lightweight, non-polluting, long-range vehicle that wasn't a fire hazard, as a replacement to fossil fuel technology.

^ Made a profit off Tesla, of course. I've had it for a while now.

Replace it with less fancy but more reliable car, used car works too!
And drive in peace….

I am driving in peace, and I am not taking a loss, I had made my purchasing decision based on many other vehicles I tried including other EVs. And if you feel like somehow people should be afraid to drive a vehicle for political reasons then you are going to FAFO soon enough. It's a crime to threaten people.

Are you OP? Because I responded to OP and he said he hated it.
If you are not OP you can do whatever you want with your tesla.
Also drive in peace doesn’t means scare of threat, I means peace in your mind that you know you are no longer associated with something that you are against.

Hate Elon - have a Tesla and I'm not going to sell it because that accomplishes nothing. It's not complicated.

+1 Same situation here. Don't conflate Tesla with Musk. You can hate some things Musk does and not hate other things Musk does.

Disagree. It’s one thing to have a Tesla from before. If you buy one now, you are literally supporting Musk.

You are supporting Musk by paying your taxes. Space X puts up our satellites for defense. Are you going to quit paying taxes? (And this is not something that started with Trump).

Is it okay to buy a used one? Because now I'm thinking it is a good time to get a great car.

Of course it's fine. Buy what you like and can afford, and ignore claims that what you drive is necessarily a political statement. It's a car, not a billboard. Others buy what they wat, you buy what you want, nobody should be telling you what to do with your own money.

Set it on fire. So many Teslas are being burned by people (heroes!) who hate musk (or just catching fire all by themselves) that it’s just one more that don’t be investigated. Police will just assume it was vandalized and give you a report number for insurance. Burn it. Then you get to walk away with the full value.

Musk has been awful forever. Anyone claiming to suddenly care now is affected.

You are the reason insurance rates are high. Just stop. Anyone who does this runs the risk of being sued for insurance fraud and will likely never be able to get insurance in the future.
