I know it's just a coincidence that this blizzard is happening in week of President's Day but the only worse school calendars are in Pennsylvania (or any other such place) that is insane to not have a full week off in the spring! |
| There shouldn't be as much of a break between school grades. Lots of learning loss over summer. Instead they should build in more one week breks throughout the school year. |
There’s no blizzard. Current forecast is under 4 inches in DMV. |
Yep this one is fizzling out quickly |
| Due to the snow day last week, have we had the school year extended by another day? |
I lived in MA previously where the schools did February break and April break…. agree it would not be cool to do February and not another later. Do they do that in PA? |
I assume the announcement is coming but it hasn’t happened officially yet as far as I am aware |
I don't see accumulation totals mattering on this storm except for whether the kids will be back for Friday or night. Right now models have snow beginning in the morning on Wednesday and snow falling on Thursday am, too. We will likely be full days off both days, since the ground and air temperatures will be cold enough for it to stick immediately. If we get alot of snow Friday will be off. If we get a little, we will be back in the buildings on Friday. |
Most PA school districts apparently only have ONE week plus long break the entire school year between Christmas and New Year's and even that is still not 2 full weeks. They typically have a 4-day weekend at President's Day and a 4 or 5-day weekend around Easter. The only exceptions are Philly, Pitt and Harrisburg (and possibly nearby districts) who have a full week off in the spring. If going 3 1/3 months is long how do the students and teachers make it FIVE MONTHS without a FULL break? |
Looks even lower again - 1 to 4 inches maybe? For tropical tidbits, slide the slider to move ahead in time |
| BTW the only reason I found out about Pennsylvania is when I heard of a crazy strike that occurred back in September 2013 that eliminated Christmas break (except Christmas and NYD themselves)! What a NIGHTMARE those students must have gone through as they had only Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's Day and Memorial Day as guaranteed days off after that strike. Between snow days and a 2nd strike that school year ended on June 30, 2014, less than 2 months before the next SY started. |
March 31 and June 6 should be the makeup days as they are marked as possible makeup days but they'll probably do June 17 based on the last one being June 16. |
Don't take away March 31. Reason: spring break is late this year and there are no days off between tomorrow and then (unless we get a snow day). |
| Is it is showing zero snow. |
