The reason trans is an issue, a tiny tiny group who are statistically insignificant, is because it is being used as cover to push some sort of evil legislation that will cause harm, probably to fundamentalist Christians who are the largest opponents to LGBT.

I'm a reluctant Trump voter, not MAGA, but I did vote Trump this time. I do not support self-ID, trans women in women's spaces, or the way the left has swung too hard towards the extreme on trans issues. At the same time, I don't support what Nancy Mace is doing. It's possible to fight back against excesses without gleeful cruelty. Refraining from using words for a population that the group considers to be slurs on them isn't a lot to ask. Trans people are Americans too and they're entitled to liberty and the pursuit of happiness like all of us. A trans person should be able to go to work, pick up their kid from school, go grocery shopping, get medical care, get married, and live life without being afraid they'll be called names and shamed in the streets. That's not what this should be about.

Every social issue is a headache and heartache nowadays because both parties are extreme. Trump and Mace are going to take this backlash too far, but Dems aren't going to turn moderate either. Crappy choices all the time.

I agree with all of this. But as to the bolded, many, many women have said they consider cis, menstruator, etc to be slurs. That has not been respected at all. In fact, women who politely said they didn’t like those terms have been told to shut up and worse from trans rights advocates. Some got rape threats for that. I’m not defending Mace’s use of the slur, but I see very little reflection from trans rights advocates for their use of demeaning slurs.

I think there needs to be some accountability across the board here.

She’s not just some yahoo on twitter. She’s is a committee meeting that has rules of decorum. Fetterman can’t wear a sweatshirt, but she can use slurs? Give me a break.

+1 Watching this clip, I was embarassed for her and for my whole gender. She was acting like a petulant teenager and Connelly was the only grown up in the room. But I will say, once you start making exceptions and ignoring rules of decorum -- like wearing a sweatshirt because you can't be bothered to wear a sweater -- the whole system starts the break down. These little rules of civility are important and Trump's people, plus Fetterman, ignore all of them.

“Cisgender” means traditional gender aspects and mannerisms consistent with sex assigned at birth, including masculine or feminine traits and social mores, and a sexual attraction to the opposite biological sex. Unless a gay man was only attracted to other gay men who themselves are transgendered and identified only as heterosexual women, it would be difficult to suggest that that gay man was cisgender.

The conservative Republicans in my family are as anti-trans as they are anti-gay (I am gay). These are the ones who are very religious.

The more "liberal" Republicans in my family are fine with trans people, fine with gay people & gay marriage, and fine with immigrants as long as they come legally. These are the ones who are no longer religious.

I come from a large family. My mom is the youngest of 11 and my dad is the middle of 7. I have 37 first cousins just on my mom's side. In total I have 59 first cousins. My parents are both from WV and moved our family to VA when I was young. My cousins who went to college and moved out of WV are all liberal/Democrats. Those who stayed in WV are all Republicans. The MAGA relatives are mostly on my mom's side and are her siblings and their offspring who are the poorest. The ones who never moved out of the family holler and have seen very little of the world outside of their tiny WV county.

One of the great things that Trump is doing is tapping into the 100% disagreement that Democrats have for everything he does. There are issues where the majority of Americans are agree with him (such as women's sports being limited to biological women), but Democrats have such knee-jerk opposition to anything he does, they take the losing side of issues.

This is exactly right. He is ensuring Democrats cannot take electoral advantage of his mistakes because every other day, they come out foaming and frothing to take the losing side of very easy issues. Issues like whether a man who claims he is a woman should be believed are litmus tests. They are tests of sanity and the capacity to tell the truth in the smallest things, and Democrats frequently fail.

The roughly 60% of the country that is not utterly partisan, deluded Democrat voters is not going to trust the party to do a job as big as "protecting democracy" when these people can't even sack up and tell the truth that they know Lia Thomas is a freaking man. People like Seth Moulton really bring this home. He has confessed that he knows this whole trans madness is a sham and a threat to women and girls, including his daughters, but he still voted against a bill to get men out of women's sports. Bending over for his far left donors and falling in line with party leadership matters more than truth, decency, values. He sold out his own daughters because it was easier than breaking ranks. There is nothing more corrupt and disgusting than that.

Republicans are only big mad about trans folks because that's yet another minority that is superior to their boring, white, male cisgendered selves.

Minorities have surpassed white dudes in almost every aspect of life: most sports, educational aptitude, most workplace sectors. White dudes are notoriously fragile beings. The old ones are scared about the society their younger white offspring have to live in.

I mean, they can't have sex with drunk girls and get away with it anymore! They can't skate by on looks and light flirting with their HS teachers to pass classes. They can't even have being great at a sport to use as a sure-fire way to get into college because the demographics are shifting so quickly that more and more minorities are getting the scholarships over white dudes. They can't apply to a job fresh out of college with a strong white name like William Bradley Adams IV and automatically get the position. They don't get raises and promotions just for being mediocre white dudes in the office... and they are pissed.

Okay, but you don’t get to speak for everyone. I’m a registered Democrat who voted for Harris, and I find the word profoundly offensive. Why? Because it is, in my view, a religious slur. I am not part of and do not believe in gender ideology, and I do not want to adopt its religious tenets, nor do I want to be referred to using the derogatory term that adherents use for non-believers. There are many terms that religious groups use to insult (and provoke violence against) outsiders. I am not going to repeat the most vile of them here, but consider how the term “infidel” is used by some religious groups. “Cisgender” is just another version of “infidel.”

And the point is that even if you disagree with me completely, as is your right, there are many people—many of whom did not and would never vote for Trump—who consider the term cisgender to be extremely and deeply offensive. So, why is it acceptable to keep using the term?
