Safety of neighbors with Secret Service?

It’s a little creepy to have secret service everywhere, but you could probably leave your keys in your car and your front door unlocked as long as they’re there - probably makes you safer overall, even if there’s an ick factor.

Then why can’t the person who started this thread just ask the secret service to assign an unarmed security detail to the neighbor’s house?

Seems a simple enough solution.

The OP has experience having USSS in their neighborhood. Was this a problem before or is it because the protectee isn’t giving OP enough deference? Being friendly enough? Or the OP doesn’t like their politics?

And asking for unarmed security will get you nowhere.

I probably wouldn’t like the protectee’s politics either. But OP is being a dbag with this post/attitude.

You seem overly aggressive, even though it's not in your best interest to act this way. This person knows he's reviled. He doesn't talk to you for a reason - he's probably made up his mind that DC is a swamp of communism and corruption. Don't make it more obvious with signs, that's just provocation, and a target if a band of his supporters visits him.

Separately, what the heck do you think you can learn from him face-to-face that you can't figure out online?!?!?! If he's reviled, you know someone is going try something at some point. He won't be able to tell you more than that! At this point he may not know himself whether specific threats have been made or not, and even if they have been, that doesn't necessarily translate to immediate risk on your neighborhood. The detail is standard for certain figures that have garnered negative attention, that's all. You should educate yourself on threats and security services - it's a complex field, and there is not certainty, just protocols.

It's almost as if you're looking for a confrontation here. Do NOT bother this person. They may or may not be evil, but right now they're probably pretty stressed out with the transition, and stress leads to aggression. Don't be stupid. The protective detail is working in your favor here - while they're in your street, people will think twice about attacking this guy, and you won't become collateral damage. Get it?

I would feel much safer with secret service (or any other security firm) having a visible presence in my neighborhood. Most criminals do what’s easy.

OP, in your shoes, I would walk over and introduce yourself and give them a paper with your name and phone number on it. I'd say that you are keen to cooperate on neighborhood safety issues.

Just stop. You are the problem. Just because someone wants privacy in their home does not make them a problem. All the bizarre signage is actually YOU being aggressive.

Then they move to a gated community. People have a right to peacefully assemble and express themselves in public spaces, including public streets where politicians live.

My husband once had his bike stolen from about 3 feet away from a posted secret service agent. The bike was locked so the thief took the time to saw the lock.

They are there to guard the person, not be neighborhood watch. I imagine that they are trained not to care about anything that isn't relating to the protectee. Somebody could easily fake a break in/medical emergency to take attention away from Secret Service while somebody else did something bad.

I live out in Loudoun County in the neighborhood where Trump’s club is. He literally never set foot here until he was elected the first time, and literally never came once during the last 4 years he was out of office. But when he is in office he comes all the damn time to play golf (unless it’s winter and he goes to FL) and it’s super annoying.
