Error in my child’s enrichment criteria for magnet consideration. What can be done?

What can be done at this point? I’m so angry. I’ve sent a note to the DCCAPS office to understand what is going on and what can be done. Any insight?

Honestly, the magnet programs have now been watered down with the lottery and the local norming-they're not the gems they used to be-they're smart kids but not the top 1% like they used to be

lol
Do you know how many top kids never apply because their parents are racist or don’t want to provide transportation?

Magnet kids are very smart however they have never been the top 1 percent.

It’s been many years since there was an application process. Back in 2020 all kids in 5th grade were reviewed and the COGAT was used. They definitely did only take the top 1 percent.

Really, you can promise? where were you when students who were definitely above the "norm" and "met" bogus "criteria" were not pooled, yet another year students who did not meet the "criteria" were pooled and not just one but three from same class in same school were selected from a "lottery?" Do explain since you seem to be able to know.

Come on OP. Share your update.

This is OP. You were all right. DC did not make the cut off as the locally normed MAP score was much lower than her national percentile.

It is not only that, OP. One day it may make sense and posters will stop spouting out "stop with the conspiracy theories."

All rising 5th graders in MCPS.

The data varies by school based on SES bands. For example the top 15% at a low FARMS school is really the top 5%. The criteria can be confusing to a lot of people.

Yes, unless you were in the top 1% you had slim to no odds of getting into these special programs. Today at a high FARMS school many kids in the top 40% nationally qualify. The programs are still worthwhile but not the same as before.
