The impetus for change started back in 2007 when Pope Benedict released Summorum Pontificum. Funny that you think the Church could move a decision like liturgical change in just a few months from 2010 to 2011! |
While the idea that the New English Missal was debuted in an effort to deflect attention from alleged sexual scandals is frankly ludicrous given the length of the work involved and the fact that the U.S. is only one English speaking country among many in the Church, a PP was correct that the process began with the 2001 issuance of Liturgiam authenticam. Summer Pontificum dealt with the use of the 1962 “Old Mass,” not the translation of the Novus Ordo. |

As a practicing Catholic, I’ve had it all memorized and automatic for a long time now. I don’t think I even remember any of the old version beyond “and also with you.”
And FWIW, I’m in my mid 50s and educated in Catholic schools so I did that old way for a long, long time and had very ingrained habits to break. |
