This is 72 percent of voters telling the left wing of the city council to go to hell. There should prompt a lot of introspection though I doubt it will.

Weird, because left wing activists were some of the most prominent supporters of the Initiative. The DC Dems are pretty centrist, but really prefer power over anything resembling power. They admitted to carrying the water for certain Dems on Council, notably Anita Bonds, who will be the most screwed by this initiative.

RCV can be gamed. Most people don't understand the various ways votes can be counted, so they don't know what they voted to enact.

Have fun DC.

that’s why I don’t get why the ballot initiative was allowed to be so vaguely worded. I had no idea what concretely I would be voting for.

uh, huh. do you even live here? this ballot initiative will allow 80,000 independents to vote in democratic primaries. it's going to be *really* hard for far left progressives, like the ones who currently dominate our city council and control the dc democratic party, to get elected under this. this is voters changing to rules so that the likes of charles allen and nadeau can't get elected anymore.

You think the Democratic party wants people who aren't Democrats voting in Democratic primaries? Is that why they went to court to stop this?

The Council would need to draft legislation to implement RCV and fund it. So the Council gets the final say in how RCV is implemented. They who pay the piper call the tune...

That's why it was important that this passes with a supermajority. If 72 percent of voters tell the city council to do something and they don't do it, then it looks like they dont care about voters or the public. You can ask Kamala Harris what happens to you when voters think you're not listening to them.

Is there any voting rule that cannot be gamed?

It's not really a primary election in practice. It's the de facto general election, hence why people saw the wisdom of this initiative.
