Anyone have their GenZ son convert to Trump?

Biden and Democrats have done nothing to tackle affordable educatation and student loan debt, they don't like the crime increase in cities, don't like inflation, and are concerned about the numbers of undocumented migrants coming into the country. They had no idea who random kids would be who'd show up in schools in their classes during some years and then completely disappear the next year. Supposedly one of the guys who was a sophomore in high school with them admitted to being something like a 23 year old guy. He could get in because he had no verifiable identity.

These are weird things for normal 19 and 21 yos to worry about. This doesn't ring true to me -- it sounds more like these kids are parroting their right wing parents. The tell is the topics -- those are obsessions of the right wing and the media that fuels it. Normal Americans may be concerned about inflation, but they also know it's well under control now due to Biden's policies (it took a few years to correct the inflation that started as a result of Trump's mismanagement of the pandemic). Most Americans aren't really worried about undocumented immigrants. Crime is actually DOWN. The economy is the strongest it's been in decades.

So I don't buy this. I believe they might be voting Trump, but they haven't really come to these convictions by their own volitions. They're just voting how mommy and daddy tell them to vote, because they've been indoctrinated in right wing ideology.

Please give GenZ more credit than that.

Socialism does not work.

Can your son define what socialism is?

It works great in places like New Zealand, Canada, and the rest of the Nordics.

Wow.

Biden and the Dems have done a ton to help higher education costs and relieve student debt, but they cannot "dictate" the cost of college.
Crime is generally not up in cities (it is in DC) and per capita, crime is higher in red states than blue states.
Inflation was a result of COVID and is back to where it was before COVID. Again, a president cannot dictate the cost of good and services.

For all of these issues, what are Trump's plans? How is he going to reduce costs or the price of education?

I am woe'd for the lack of education and critical thinking if this is how students these days are "doing their research"

If the Biden government thought they could eliminate student debt, then the possibility of dictating the cost of college should also be possible. It has been litigated on shaky terms, but why does an out-of-state student cost more to educate than in-state? When that out-of-state debt is then financed, it creates problems with repayment and then it must be reduced or eliminated through government mandate. Lower the cost of eduation by lowering the cost of out-of-state tuition or by raising the % of in-state students. Not a be all end all.

btw - crime is up. crime is also up in cities in red states where the population is mostly blue.
btw - if inflation is up bc of covid then most things trump need to be forgiven because of covid.
I'm afraid your critical thinking is also lacking.

Joy

Crime is DOWN, actually. https://counciloncj.org/crime-trends-in-u-s-cities-mid-year-2024-update/

Don't make me quote Moynihan at you.

Apparently polls suggest half of Gen Z voters support a Harris while one third will vote for Trump.

Polls are polls so who knows how accurate they will be.

My Gen Z is most worried about
Women’s rights
Climate change
Rise of fascism

The other guy is a schoolteacher. Son says both of them claimed to be Independent in 2020 but did not vote. The election came up and they both promised my son that they are voting for Harris. The concerns they cited are the bullying of trans and gay people and Trump's record of bold face lying and the fact that he's a convicted felon. The teacher is already married, and the IT guy is engaged. My son voted a straight D ticket in Arlington last week. He was a Bernie Bro in 2016 but voted for Clinton. He said he has avoided talking politics with most of his back home friends. We live in a red county.

I have to wonder about married and soon to be married men being worried about the bullying of trans people, over the bullying of women, as their top issue. Those women should run, fast.

That is understood. They are pro choice. I guess I included that because I was surprised it was an issue. One guy is a high school teacher so he sees the book banning and bullying by the right wing school board. But you had to get your insult in, MAGA, didn’t you?

Republicans lost the plot with Roe. That loses most young people. But Democrats are not winning this generation either. Illegal migrants, violent crime, inflation, unaffordable housing, DEI, the absurd costs of higher education. Real issues.

My son voted for Trump in NYC.

Both my sons back Trump. But it’s not a conversion because politics isn’t a religion.

My gen Z isn't happy with the current state of American politics but has definitely arrived at his own conclusion that Trump is batshit insane. He filled out his absentee ballot for Harris. He did vote for one sane-seeming downballot Republican and the rest Democrats.

Is that why men start all the wars?

Kamala Harris and Liz Cheney in government. What can go wrong?

Trump in government = chaos and a threat to our national security, per many in the intelligence community and generals.

Would you describe them as experts?

DP. The people in the DoD/DHS/IC/Public Safety space saying Trump is a danger are far more expert to judge than the average MAGA is.

I heard kids talking about trump at a Halloween party. The great thing about Trump or social media is his antics are engaging young Americans in the political process. That’s a good thing
