+1. It seems like 95% of these posters do not have a teenager daughter but they sure have a lot of opinions on teenage girls.

+1. Really gross to see these comments in 2024.

I have a teen DD who went to HoCo. I would not let her weary a trashy dress. They look like prostitutes. Her friends came over our house all dressed up, and omg.. they looked like they were spilling out of their dresses, constantly pulling the skirt down, but the bodice up. FYI if you constantly have to fidget with your dress, it's probably not appropriate.

I’m sorry your kid wasn’t allowed to wear something that is fashionable. Did she wear a DVF wrap dress? Or Hanna Andersen? My kid is allowed to wear what she wants to Homecoming and also has the sense to find something she is comfortable in.

I’m also sorry your daughter knows you judge her and her friends based on clothing and called them prostitutes.

Someone in this thread is obsessed with calling teens prostitutes. Disgusting and pathetic.

Your right it must be my issue that I don't want to be looking at someone's private parts when I am in public. My DC says the ones who wear it are the "pick me" girls.

Wouldn't be hilarious if the boys fashion came around to them walking around with their balls hanging out. Such body positivity....

Yes, because the girls are showing off their bottom lips. You are beyond disturbed.

You are a sick pervert. We see you.

Exactly. The question is, why do yeh choices of unrelated teen girls get people so furious. And don’t act like it’s just the nature of the dresses. I have swimmers and somehow I can manage not to stare at speedos (or become furious about them, etc.)

And I’d be cautious about congratulating yourselves on your judgey daughters wearing dresses you approve of.

They are all the same level of naked in swimming. It’s not about anyone not being able to control themselves to stare at them. It’s they feel forced into wearing these uncomfortable dresses that look terrible on most of them to fit in and we as a culture are part of that. And yep I have a teenage daughter and she is wearing a dress like this even. I can allow it and still see its kind of messed up.

Some of you are so dense:

Several people have literally been claiming they not been able to avoid seeing people’s “privates” and that they look like prostitutes. Girls and their choices are policed in a way that boys and there choices aren’t. I mean, you don’t see many page threads about boys scratching themselves or mansprreading etc like you do teen girl clothes gripes.

If my boy wore clothes that showed the shadow of his butt and nuts, I would 100% say something.

And yes, if a boy scratched himself in public that would be gross.

I have teen boys and girls. I just told my son he can’t wear something out of the house because no one wants to see the outline of his privates.
I really hate the right short body con dresses. They are so unflattering and look so uncomfortable. I agree that we can hardly call if a feminist choice when there is so much societal pressure to dress this way plus it’s hard to find other choices in the stores. My oldest daughter is pretty non conformist and refused to wear those—she did a pantsuit one year and a skater/aline the other two years. My younger daughter is much more conformist so it’s more an issue—she just wants to wear whatever everyone else does. I’m generally allowing it but I do a check to make sure she’s not doing a Brittany flash when she moves or sits down. But the slightly longer dresses are just so much more comfortable, especially something with a little swish to it.

So it’s ok for PP to reference balls hanging out?? It’s all genitalia.

There are many of us comparing the look to sex workers. It is what it is.

So we’re talking about dresses like this, right? For 15-year-olds?

I only have an elementary schooler but I could see myself adopting this mindset. If she is generally high self esteem and a good dresser I probably wouldn’t mind if she went with a bizarre (to me) outfit for HoCo to match her friends.

You all realize there are people elsewhere on the globe (and earlier in history) having the same convos about hair showing/ankles being glimpsed/girls making brazen eye contact. I look forward to homecoming season being over so you can go back to bemoaning vocal fry.

Why make them wear tops at all, except for pasties?

Hate the cheap fabric and cheap cuts. Does nothing for the girls, even the very attractive ones.

Anonymous wrote:People always miss the point on this topic. Girls can wear whatever they want but always notice the boy norms mean their bodies are covered by clothes and they are comfortable. Who is really dictating what these girls are wearing? Is it the girls themselves? Not really.

Acting like this is your daughters somehow showing agency and having body positivity is just dumb. They are sheep.

Exactly. Do the girls dress like this when it's an all-girl gathering? Or is it just when there are boys there?
