HoCo dresses- Could they be any shorter

Anonymous
People always miss the point on this topic. Girls can wear whatever they want but always notice the boy norms mean their bodies are covered by clothes and they are comfortable. Who is really dictating what these girls are wearing? Is it the girls themselves? Not really.

Acting like this is your daughters somehow showing agency and having body positivity is just dumb. They are sheep.

while that is form fitting, at least they are wearing tights underneath, and a turtleneck/sweater.

They are wearing hose. Easy access to the goods. Lift and tear dotted line.

I have an 11 yo girl and I'll admit that the homecoming photos on FB have made me uncomfortable. So so short and so tight. I am really hoping the style will change before my kid is old enough for homecoming.

Like when I see HoCo and prom photos and it's 10 girls in each photo and they are all wearing postage stamp body con dresses I wonder if any of those girls would have preferred to wear something else. Especially because (having worn a dress that tight and a big longer) it's a high maintenance look that isn't super comfortable especially over several hours of dancing and eating. Is anything else allowed or do you pretty much have to dress like this in order to avoid drawing attention to yourself?

When I was in high school the fashions for HoCo and prom were not this consistent. HoCo dresses tended to be shorter but they weren't consistently mini dresses -- some were but plenty of people wore something longer. Lots of people picked princess-style dresses for prom or long sheaths.

To be clear: we were every bit as unfashionable and awkward. But it seems like there was more personal expression allowed. Now it seems like every girl attending a high school dance wears a skin tight mini dress that barely covers her butt with skinny straps and a pair of sneakers. Is this really the only think they wear now?

Those are 10 girls who WANT to draw attention to themselves.

You are literally not paying attention to the girls who dres so extremely.

What's the rule about hemlines and election years?

There is a dress code at ours and yes, you will get turned away if you don't fit the dress code. There are no short dresses, high slits or spaghetti straps. Makes shopping for a dress challenging but no short dresses in sight. They also breathalyze kids.

Something about it makes these ladies feel uncomfortable inside. Maybe they didn’t have the confidence at that age or they truly believe men can’t control themselves when they see skin.

Your right it must be my issue that I don't want to be looking at someone's private parts when I am in public. My DC says the ones who wear it are the "pick me" girls.

Wouldn't be hilarious if the boys fashion came around to them walking around with their balls hanging out. Such body positivity....

Yes, because the girls are showing off their bottom lips. You are beyond disturbed.

I am not this poster and sorry to break it to you but they’re wearing thongs and for sure someone might see some private part action by accident. Unless they stay upright and standing the entire evening. If boys wore skirts this short with barely there underwear you’d see their balls at times.

I guess a reality check is disturbing.

Those are longer than what girls were wearing at homecoming.

What? This is based on photos friends and family have posted of their kids attending hoco. They all feature line ups of many girls wearing the variations on the exact same dress. Not just a single photo of 10 girls but dozens of photos of 10 girls in which every single girl is dressed alike. I haven't seen a single photo of a girl wearing anything other than a super short and tight dress. So every HS age girl I know is trying to draw attention to herself? No. Plenty of these girls are dressing this way to fit in because if you wear a longer dress or pants or something less tight you will stick out and get more attention.

If it were just some girls I'd be like "leave them alone -- if that's what they feel comfortable in that's their business." The fact that it's every girl indicates that it's not what they want to wear or what they feel comfortable in but just what you are socially required to wear. That sucks. I'd say the same thing if the trend was for all the boys to wear skin tight suits or something. It's obviously not comfortable so if everyone is doing it it's because they don't really have a choice.

Did you see the thread about girls wearing suits?
At my teen's dance, I'm sure we'll see some goth lace skirts, some cargo skirts, and some skater dresses. So no, marge, the girls don't all have to wear what you are seeing on social media. Which are the thirsty people looking for "likes". If I'm wrong I will come back and update, for sure.

And smaller. I saw pics of a girl with her boobs hanging out. She looked like she had implants. She looked trampy. And slutty. I said it. Fight me!

Yeah but the girls in the giant groups with mom posting them are all in the same tribe and mindset. I think people with kids more willing to be unique are not in those groups and less likely to have the mom who feels the need to post hoco pics.
