Meanest DCUM Forum

No. It used to be pretty local, then when Trump became Prez, it was clear that it was no longer local.

You are unhinged if you think Trump being Prez had an impact on this site with the exception of LWNJ losing their minds in the political forum.

I have been on this site for more nearly two decades and the funny snark of the past has dissolved into mean spirited, at times borderline sociopathic behaviors.

For me, the lacrosse forum makes me very happy that I have no lacrosse players. Not always mean spirited, but definitely some unhinged comments.

Wrong. It brought Russian bots that wouldn’t have been otherwise. Plus this a great site for right-wing trollers. Heavily liberal and heavily female, so it’s lots of fun for people from all over the place.

and speaking of - i think the pets forum is the most unhinged one that i ever pay any attention to

i don't know which is meanest. they are all mean and fun/helpful in equal measure, that i've noticed.

Not even mean, there's at least one poster there who posts awful sick fantasies about killing animals, mainly dogs. They're like, gleeful in coming up with different ways to kill, torture, or maim animals. I report them and have them removed.

Pit bulls. There's this rabidly anti-pit poster who goes completely unhinged at the merest mention of a pit bull existing. It's intense!

Those people are equally matched with the people insisting everyone who cares about health has an eating disorder or is an almond mom.

I'm afraid to ask, but what's an almond mom?

I took a break from dcum yesterday-I posted in the 9/11 thread recounting a pregnancy loss & got two weird comments on a word choice I used.

I'm sorry for your loss. A loss on a day that is remembered annually is special-rough. I miscarried on my oldest child's birthday during the party.

It’s everywhere here. I can’t believe the people who will aggressively respond to any question/issue with: “your child has this issue because you’re such a bad parent.” Even though it’s anonymous here, I still can’t believe how mean people can be, especially when it’s so out of proportion to whatever the situation is. I can’t tell if it’s just a few really mean, judgmental people (who also have no idea what normal child behavior is) or if many people are just secretly meaner than I know. Anyway, it’s sad. And unhelpful. Like, just keep scrolling. You don’t need to respond to every post and tell someone they’re an idiot/brought it on themselves.

Please report any mean posts. Jeff really likes to keep that shot out of there.

+1. That and the Infertility forum are special places on DCUM. Please report any mean threads or comments.

Really? I'm a single mom and haven't found that. That's another forum where mean posts are usually reported and deleted.

The private school forum is generally awful. Lots of gossiping about school staff in a public way that would make me not want to work at those schools, combined with insults to the public school and lesser private school population.

The politics forum has all the misogynists and racists who post things that would get them fired if it weren't anonymous. There's always someone who posts on the special needs forum, when someone posts something about a challenge with a kid with a diagnosis, and says that the only thing wrong with the kid is bad parenting.

College is pretty extreme, with regard to being snobby.

School forums can be pretty nasty too. Specifically Montgomery County as that is the one I check but I would have to imagine the others are similar.

The politics forum is infested with truly extreme LWNJs. Even Jeff has said it’s a disaster.

Pure projection. MAGAS are the ones derailing everything there.

A lot of the elementary school kids threads are mean girlish. A lot of "are you dumb / stick to the schedule stupid / you're a terrible mom if your kids stay up past 6:30pm"

A lot of the relationship forum is very big on "well didn't you know that before you married them dummy" which is the most unhelpful comment EVER.

omg I remember- there used to be an anti-redshirting poster who was completely unhinged.

She still pops up every once in awhile and still refuses to understand that the school cutoff in the entire US apart from New York and the NYC suburbs is anywhere between 7/31-9/30. And when someone mentions holding back their July-September birthday kid she shows up like clockwork to say “that kid is in the middle of their class why would you do that.”

My son is a August 1 bday. He turned 18 TWO MONTHS after HS graduation, but there were redshirted kids in his class that had turned 19 in May. So there were classmates that were two years older. It is gross, especially with boys.

Both the Relationship forums are pretty bad, but I feel like it seems to rotate - I often wonder if it’s a few posters who just make the rounds to all the forums every few days or weeks.

That's what it looks like to me. There's a low-effort troll who just drops a generic "You sound selfish" or "disgusting" into new threads like it's their job.
