Why DCUM has such high regard to Wake and Davidson?

Anonymous
Does Wake heavily yield protect for RD applicants?

DC has a 4.0 UW, 11 AP, 1510 with good ECs and leadership but no national awards etc. Full pay.

No willing to ED or ED2 at Wake because it’s probably DC’s #4 - after Duke, Michigan, and Vanderbilt. But very worried about yield protection. Anyone have insight or experience? ?

Wake does not yield protect.

I had never heard of Davidson before we visited because we were in the area, my kids loved it. My dd bought a sweatshirt (she was 15-16?) and for the next few years, every time she wore it, someone stopped her who went there to ask her if she attended and to sing it’s praises. This included on a flight from California, at OBx, in CT, all over. It was so cool that had she applied, she was going to write and essay about “the Davidson sweatshirt”. She didn’t end up applying because she got in somewhere else ED but if you ask her today, she’d say she wishes she’d gone to Davidson.

That’s a great story. My son has an ED 1 but if it doesn’t happen is considering ed2 there

I am a different Davidson parent who has a young graduate among my children. The friends my child made will be friends for life. I cannot begin to tell you the impact that school has made on my child's life. It was, without a doubt, the perfect school for my child. The experiences, relationships and networking it provides are amazing. Those kids are so tight and look out for each other. It is an amazing community. So maybe that is why people on DCUM promote it. IYKYK.

and when I grew up outside NYC in CT, my brother went to UVA... so I guess some people DO hear of it.

Thank you so much for this. What do you think made it the perfect school for your child?
What kind of student thrives there?
What kind of student might be unhappy?

the same reason that UVA is held in such high regard- this is a discussion board in a southern oriented location

in a discussion board in NY/CT, BC, Colby and Michigan are getting the same love

Interesting...you must not have run in educated circles. NYC has a UVA club. Strong graduate presence.

Because they are colleges that above average (but not exceptional ) white, UMC families send their kids to when they are rejected from top 25 schools.

We loved it. I posted about my child considering it for ED2. How would you have described your child in high school? Curious to see how my dc would fit in there.
