+1 I had to laugh at the PP's response. UVA is *never* even mentioned among historic (or even current) engineering schools. It's a non-entity. |
Yield protection is when you reject overqualified applicants because you don't think they would accept your offer. |
Yield protection is also about students showing demonstrated interest in attending. |
UVA does not track demonstrated interest. It does not yield protect like VT. |
UVA is ranked 38 out of 199 top engineering programs in the US by USNWR. My DS went through it and is now working on a DPhil at Oxford. She's received seven unsolicited job offers already. |
Echols Scholars are a program within the College of Arts & Sciences. UVa is believed to offer Echols to academically strong applicants who they think might jump to a different university (Ivy or similar). There is no guaranteed money from Exhols, but they do get preferential treatment in some areas. UVa E School analog is Rodman Scholars, which has fewer practical benefits. |

The main way you demonstrate interest is by applying ED. |
How many students are admitted ED, roughly? |
|
http://uvaapplication.blogspot.com/2023/12/unofficial-2023-2024-early-decision.html
About 28% of the class of 2028 was admitted in ED. |
DP. For about the millionth time, VT does not yield protect. They say so right on their website, unlike UVA. "Yield Protection Virginia Tech does not participate in yield protection." https://www.vt.edu/admissions/undergraduate/counselor-corner.html#:~:text=Virginia%20Tech%20does%20not,participate%20in%20yield%20protection. |
You've told us this story countless times. An engineering program ranked 38 is NOT a top program. Please stop pretending otherwise. |

I love when people criticize their engineering program. These kids have the last laugh to the bank.

If UVA does not track demonstrated interest, why do they send personalized admissions links to high schoolers with their name in the URL? |
