So Noah Lyles running in the Olympics on Day2 of Covid...impressive or jerk move?

These children don't understand the serious impact that a COVID infection could have on the rest of their lives.

Choosing to run with it? Totally fine. Hugging the gold and silver medal winners immediately after the race on the other hand, extremely arrogant and selfish.

He didn’t appear to tell the medical staff who assisted him after the race that he had Covid, or they would probably have put masks on. Who knows what health vulnerabilities were present in the people around him? Covid is not Ebola, but it’s definitely more dangerous than flu if you look at the numbers. It’s also hella contagious and if I were an Olympic athlete with another event in a couple of days I would really rather not be exposed, especially by someone who is aware that they are contagious since that particular exposure could have been avoided.

There are ways he could have run and still protected others around him better. I think he was planning on keeping it a secret, but the gig was up when he was taken out of the stadium in a wheelchair, so he had to confess.

Although the athletic performance was impressive, I’m gonna err on the side of “jerk move”. I will include his coaches on this one because I’m sure they helped him make his decisions.

If any of those people were really concerned about getting Covid, they’d have masks on themselves. They’re at the Olympics where Covid is known to be going around. If they’re in the mix with no mask, they’re probably saying “welp, if I get it I get it,” or maybe they just had it last week (or have it right now!) This constant attempt to victimize everyone is really tiresome.

I'm fine with him running with Covid, and I'm impressed that he got a medal! I don't think it was a jerk move to hug other people afterwards either. We're all potentially exposed to Covid every day, unless you're one of the weirdos that still doesn't dine in public, take public transportation, or go to the grocery unmasked.

The medical staff, his trainers and family knew he had Covid. He is allowed to race with Covid and he did. Nothing about his racing was a jerk move.

100% should have run! He has trained very hard and this only happens every 4 years.

He followed protocols in place by the US Olympic federation and the International Olympic federation.

This. I mean the PP is wrong anyway-- everyone knew he had Covid.

I don’t see anyone getting upset about the gymnastics ladies who had the flu!

Is there any way that we could quarantine these athletes when they return from Paris?

+1

There have always been viruses circulating at the Olympics. We're just much more hyper-aware of contagious viruses now because of the pandemic.

You don’t get Covid from a 2 second hug you dope. Exposure time counts.

Seriously? Do you realize how many non-Olympians are getting off planes in DC from Paris, and other places throughout the world, every single day? It’s out there, deal with it.

Who is we? What does this mean? And why would "we" quarantine Olympians but not any of the thousands of people who travel daily with infectious disease, including Covid?

Whatever it is you are afraid of here is already happening all the time, the people spreads my illness just aren't famous. It's extremely likely you have spread contagious illness before too.

I agree, but the equally selfish " it's just a cold, you're scared of your own shadow" ignoramuses here will squawk about how no one should care any more. They're too dumb to read, much less understand, any of the recent research about how repeated covid infections are tied to development of long covid. Nor do they give a s**t about whether they might pass infection to someone more vulnerable than they are. Zero ability to feel empathy for the vulnerable, or for strangers to them. They are in a bubble of "I never got it/I had a mild case/no one I know got really sick, so let it rip, it was never a big deal." How fortunate they are, not to know a soul with long covid, or to know anyone killed by covid.

I hope this is sarcasm. Sorry but no.
