Were the Olympics even necessary given the current surge?

Poe's law strikes again!

What?

Of course you run slower than any Olympian. LOL.

She could have been great but for the asthma! But Lyles has asthma too. Next excuse?

How come on every other Covid thread, when people voice concern about Covid and say they are taking precautions, they are mercilessly mocked by DCUM mommies who say Covid is no big deal, don't do anything about it, get on with your life, etc., but on this thread about an Olympian getting on with his life and winning a medal even though he has Covid, his actions are called a jerk move?

Hmmm.

The people voicing the concerns are the ones calling him a jerk. Obviously. Everyone else is saying of course he was going to run.

I wouldn’t be so sure about that.

Hypocrisy abounds.

He didn’t appear to tell the medical staff who assisted him after the race that he had Covid, or they would probably have put masks on. Who knows what health vulnerabilities were present in the people around him? Covid is not Ebola, but it’s definitely more dangerous than flu if you look at the numbers. It’s also hella contagious and if I were an Olympic athlete with another event in a couple of days I would really rather not be exposed, especially by someone who is aware that they are contagious since that particular exposure could have been avoided.

There are ways he could have run and still protected others around him better. I think he was planning on keeping it a secret, but the gig was up when he was taken out of the stadium in a wheelchair, so he had to confess.

Although the athletic performance was impressive, I’m gonna err on the side of “jerk move”. I will include his coaches on this one because I’m sure they helped him make his decisions.

+1

Perfect summary

To sum it up he was inconsiderate to all of those around him. Looked silly wearing a KN95 while interviewing with NBC after the race, dude, now you decide to wear a proper mask?

He also seemed to use it as his excuse for getting bronze after all of his bravado.

I would worry the exertion would strain my body when I needed to resources to get better, but that s me. I hope he feels better and congrats on the bronze. Impressive.

His fellow competitors seem to be okay with him competing. I'm not sure what more we could add to this discussion.

You’re wrong. He told the officials when he tested positive, they moved him out of the village and he followed their protocols. He did nothing wrong.

In 2024 COVID = Common Cold. As an asthmatic Lyles may suffer a greater impact from either than a non-asthmatic person.

Of course he should have raced. Time to move on people this is a non-issue.

Athletes have been competing with colds for 100's of years.
