Are you seriously arguing that people can't be hurt by a moped? There have been people killed by being hit by a bike in DC. It is not only cars that kill pedestrians. Moped drivers who drive in crosswalks should be fined snd deported if they are here illegally. They are a cancer on society. |
Cars literally cause cancer in society. |
Has this happened recently in DC? No? So just a presumption then. A DC driver - with thousands of dollars in unpaid speeding tickets no less - hit an elderly woman in a crosswalk in NW DC on June 5th and killed her. That is a fact. Yet despite the fact that it is drivers out there that out there actually doing the killing, you are concerned about a hypothetical involving moped drivers. Could this be, perhaps, you drive a vehicle and not a moped and so view drivers as "us" and moped riders as "them"? To cut a long story short please take your chauvinistic nonsense elsewhere. |
People can be hit and severely hurt by mopeds. It just doesn't happen very frequently relative to people being hit and severely hurt by motor vehicles. I won't patronize you by explaining the physical differences between motor vehicles and mopeds that explains this. |
With all these moped drivers driving like maniacs, it's only a matter of time before the second category exceeds the first. |
The number of deaths caused by motorists is far, far smaller than WABA would have you believe. |
Would love to see the city care about traffic violations from every category of driver. Crackdowns on the fake tags would have a ripple effect driving down all kinds of crime. |
Eh? WABA uses the same numbers you're using, from the same source. I.e., in 2022, there were 35 traffic deaths. |
We have a "broken windows" problem with traffic enforcement. People see 12 year olds on three wheelers going down the middle of Georgia Avenue. They see people on mopeds going 40 mph through stop signs. They see bicyclists ignoring every single traffic law. They see nothing happens to any of these people and then they feel like suckers for being the only ones who obey traffic laws so then they don't. Bad behavior spreads and becomes the norm. |
And I'm sure they're careful to note that roughly half those deaths are blamed on cyclists and scooters and pedestrians, right? So as not to mislead anyone? |
Q: What do we call a traffic death where the police assigned fault to the non-motorist? A: A traffic death. |
And if they cracked down on the bikes, mopeds and three-wheelers, then drivers would start driving the speed limit and coming to complete stops at crosswalks for pedestrians and no-longer stare at their phones while driving? |
A white lady in a Honda Civic recently almost killed me in a crosswalk. What should happen to her? |
Omg. You cannot possibly have just written that. The number of cars blowing through stop signs and red lights far FAR outweighs mopeds and bikers doing so; and the consequences are far more severe. Go sit an watch any stop sign for 20 minutes and tell me how many cars come to a full stop behind the stop line. None do. Literally zero unless there is cross traffic, and even in that case, they stop in the crosswalk. There are also certain traffic lights in my neighborhood that 1-2 cars in every cycle blow through because there is no cross traffic. every.single.time. Gtfo with your patently false statements. |
If the scooter or cyclist had crashed with a moped, they’d likely still be alive. That’s the whole point. This new crop of moped drivers doesn’t appear to be any less observant of traffic laws than drivers; and the consequences of an accident with them is much; much less severe. Let’s not forget that at least one of those deaths attributed to “pedestrian error” was a 4 year old, who would likely be alive if it was a moped and not an SUV. |
