Why do people say its ‘selfish’ to not want kids?

And on a personal level. More to love. Family lineage is a stronger bond. You aren't providing any value-added.

This is silly. Our good deeds to others absolutely do leave something behind, whether or not you have children.

Many people have kids bc they are selfish and are in for rude awakenings when that little person is their own person, and that adult child does not owe you anything

Whether you have kids or not, both are equally selfish. Adopting and fostering are much less selfish though, because you're opting to take care of people who already exist in this world.

This is so much bull. If you’re depriving yourself from having kids so you can take care of the kids of people who didn’t care but had them anyway, you’re just a plain idiot.

Can you give a rational and logical explanation of why it's "idiotic?"

Or are you just offended and mad that pp called out this selfishness?

If you need an explanation then it’s not worth explaining it to you.

^^That's what you say when you don't have a tenable response.

There is no need to explain how depriving yourself so others can be selfish is idiotic. If you don’t understand why, you’re hopeless.

People who choose not to have kids don’t usually see it as “depriving themselves.”

Also, the critiques usually tend to be of women specifically.

I think the feeling of wanting to have kids is ultimately selfish. But then actually having kids forces one to be selfless in a way they couldn’t have fathomed. I don’t think childless people are selfish, I just think they are sometimes self-absorbed in a way that’s simply not feasible for people with kids.

+100. Who would want to bring anyone into this world too? You have to be very selfish to do that to a poor child.

I really don't understand this perspective. Most of us enjoy living. We got here somehow.

For who? If children aren't made then are you doing this for the future deer population?

CF people know that the world is overpopulated. We are not going to have a shortage of children anytime soon. Adding a few less is not going to collapse society like you seem to think it is.

Then you are free to not make kids.

All societies do not have the same resources and intelligence and positive motivation. You are not being sacrificial by not having kids and instead spending that money and time in adulthood on yourself.

...and I'm not, and that's the point.
