Nobody considers GA the top level. PP is referring to competing nationally at ecnl level. |
The problem with this approach is that neither Loudon nor Arlington are competitive enough to make anyone else better. The exception may be Arlington 2011G. You have to get on a plane (or take a very long drive) to see any real competition. The good players are too diluted in each age group in this area to be competitive. |
Loudoun and Arlington are second tier clubs. Why would FCV play them? |
Sure, but unless you want to move to California ... That said, I don't mind winnowing down the number of ECNL or MLS Next clubs. With Union and Brave getting together, we're getting pretty close to an all-Fairfax County club -- at least the eastern part. In the whole DMV, you could surely come up with 5-6 decent teams per age group, right? Even if it's just 3-4, then you add in a couple of teams from Baltimore, then either go south to Richmond or north toward Philly, and you have a half-decent league. Problem is that they're all in different clubs AND different leagues. |
I just checked the ECNL standings -- wow, they weren't kidding about Arlington's 2011s. 22-1-1 with a +85 GD in ECNL. |
GA national championships? LOL Those teams wouldn’t stand a chance in the ECNL playoffs. You think your daughter is that good but you really have no idea. |
I'm not sure what age groups you're referring to here but in the ones I'm familiar with, driving to Baltimore or Richmond is a waste of time. PA usually has solid teams but again that's a long drive. Bethesda would be an option but how many scrimmages would be worth your time with the same club? |
Hate to burst your bubble, but the top 5-10 GA teams can certainly compete at the highest levels of ECNL. |
You're right. Those US National team players really suck. |
| the size factor works in Arlington's favor and it will catch up with them by U15. |
Meanwhile, Loudoun 09s were undefeated at U15 and #1 overall seed in ECNL. |
09 MA division is weak. |
Exactly. However, if anyone wants to see a direct comparison between top notch 2009 GA teams VS. Top ECNL teams, go ahead and look at the results from today at the PDA Showcase. Spoiler alert, it’s not pretty for GA. ECNL Nat’l champs won 5-0 over GA Nat’l champs. There were also 3 other matchups and GA lost every single game. |
NVA 09G are still #1 in MA. This group has always been fast and strong moreso than having technical skills. It's been working for them in conference games. |
Play up an age group or two and players will not only get competition, they’ll get an education. No airplane necessary. It looks good for the club for a team to rack up a gaudy record and goal differential, but it’s not doing jack for the individual players, especially the handful that are doing the dominating. If Arlington - or any other club w/ a team that is dominating - has any balls and actually cares about development, they’ll move a set of those players up in age group for next year. |
