My boyfriend steals groceries

Anonymous
My husband would never do that. Once we thought there was an item missing from our Instacart order and got a refund. Then realized my kid had put it away in an odd place. He called ic back to tell them (they didn’t charge us again tho). So no most men do not do this!

Oh FFS.

I’m thinking this isn’t real. The OP is asking if all men steal from checkout?! What a ridiculous question and who would actually stay in a relationship with someone who steals?

Show him YouTube police footage of this kind of incidents.

I am a rule follower and am horrified by this behavior, and terrified he’s going to get arrested.

Do men really steal from the self check out?

And no, he’s not that poor. This isn’t an Aladdin situation.

I know of a middle aged white woman (not me) who would fill her cart at Whole Foods and walk out the front door with a basket full of groceries. Not just limited to me.

This would be intolerable to me. A real deal breaker.

And this is in Bethesda and Kentlandd—not some poor area of town. This person shared about it in a meeting.

So he’s an aging hippie/communist type, then? Does he smoke a ton of pot too?

No! He’s a government lawyer! With a security clearance and everything. This is what makes it so baffling.

Trust me if he’s doing this openly to you he’s doing far worse at work. I learned this about my ex husband who also had high level clearances the hard way.

+1,000,000

OP, you say you're "horrified." Your gut is already telling you: If he's this casual and entitled about stealing groceries, he's extremely likely to be this casual and entitled about many other things which might horrify you. I wonder if he cheats on his taxes because "everybody does it," or he's the kind who steals stuff (and I do not mean the freebie little shampoos) from hotels, etc. It all adds up to "I'm entitled! Rules don't apply to me!" Spin that out in your imagination to how he'll act if you live together; if you marry; if you have children with him....Great lesson, dad.

Leave.

Are you serious? A real person? You can lose your federal career entirely by stealing. My ex did just this deplorable behavior.

Anonymous wrote:"most men" is a red herring. It doesn't matter if 15% or 75% of men steal. It only matters if you're okay with a man with that trait. If "most men" cheat on their partners, would you be more condoning of that act?

THIS. This is a great summary of how this kind of thinking works, OP. Ask yourself if you want to live this way, always wondering what the next escalation in the self-centered thinking is going to be.

But I was shocked to learn that most of my friends don't enter the correct number (or any bags) used during the checkout to pay for them. The county I'm in charges 0.05 per bag.

One friend said she hits 0 at every store except Wegmans because the Wegmans fee goes toward the local food pantry. "I pay enough in taxes" is her excuse. A bunch of others at the dinner party said they also enter half of what they used or just hit 1 no matter how many they use.

You need new friends, ones who are intelligent enough to understand that their taxes do not fund bags at grocery stores. FFS. And who are honest.

This. Wake up and smell the coffee OP. If you are not a troll get a sex toy and some self respect. A dog if you are lonely.

It's not baffling, they are anti-social. It's never confined to just one aspect of life.

Makes me wonder if it’s OP who is actually stealing.

He's disordered, OP.

You don't need that in your life.

DP- what kind of disorder would this be to you?

Why are you acting so clueless OP. Are you dense? In shock? There is something off about this post.
