These issues are completely unrelated. It is wrong to steal from stores regardless of what the top executives make. And people are not stealing because of executive pay, they are stealing because they are scumbags and they usually get away with it. |
He is a low integrity man. He would steal from you. He would steal from your family. Do you feel safe having your kids around him? |
Re: the bold: Is this just exaggeration for effect or are you claiming that you regularly witness theft going on in front of you at grocery stores and HD and Target, PP? If you're actually seeing it happen, what are you doing about it? Standing there getting butthurt about "paying more because of the rampant theft," or actually doing something about it like telling store security? Oh, right. Likely you'll say it's not your problem, you're scared the thieves will hurt you, you don't want to be "a Karen," or whatever pathetic excuse you want to make for being mad about theft and prices but unwilling to do anything about it--other than commit theft yourself by "forgetting" to scan items.... |
When I go to Aldi I already feel like I'm stealing because their prices are so low. There is no excuse for this guy. |
Thief’s steal. |
Haha! I live in a pro-gun state where a woman got in legal trouble because she was carrying and shot her gun at a robber who had run out out of a suburban Home Depot. I actually don't want to be around when people are trying to help! https://time.com/4146086/woman-who-shot-at-home-depot-shoplifters-i-will-never-help-anybody-again/ |
JFC, who said to pull out a gun? I said, did that PP just whine about "regularly" witnessing thefts and then DO nothing. She can alert store security. But she's scared to be called a "Karen," I'm sure. She'd rather just whine and then steal for herself, which she admits to doing as her little revenge. Insane. |
The wise way to choose your partner: Pick the one who does the right thing when no one is watching. |
Why does everyone think this is so "wild?" If you follow stocks at all, you'll know that on earnings calls, every single retailer from Walmart to Home Depot has mentioned that "shrink," i.e. retail theft, has become a huge problem nationwide, to the point that they have had to close some locations altogether. Granted, I'm sure it's less prevalent in UMC circles, but this is happening A LOT. |
My sister has been a kleptomaniac for years. I no longer go into stores with her it's embarrassing. A few weeks ago she came home with about 2k worth of stuff from target. The following week she has a bunch of expensive stuff from Wegmans. |
And white folk get away with it bc Black folk are being profiled and followed around the store. They’re looking at the wrong people. |
I'm sorry, PP. She's mentally ill but will be viewed (here on DCUM as well as in society) as just morally corrupt. This story has gotten a lot of coverage in recent days: https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2024/05/07/target-self-checkout-thief-aziza-graves-convicted/73599144007/ It's about a woman who stole extensively from Target using the self-checkouts. She's facing a possible three-year prison sentence. This could be your sister very soon and I hope that either she gets caught and gets help while in prison, or preferably, there is some way to intervene and get her help before she ends up in prison. Maybe your family has tried to get her to stop and can't. It's sad. I had a friend who shoplifted, but mostly she spent wildly beyond her means; it took ages before she finally got an accurate diagnosis of bipolar disorder. The stealing and spending manifested during her manic periods. Closets full of unused items with tags still on them. Good treatment helped, though she was in terrible debt (but lucky she was never caught shoplifting). Not saying your sister has bipolar disorder, just noting that theft is sometimes about mental illness (and yes, sometimes it's only about pure jerk entitlement--as with OP's selfish idiot boyfriend). |
To be fair, some analysts are saying that the retailers are using this as air cover for bad business strategies and closing locations. My Kroger put theft-proofing sliding plastic panels on the detergent jugs that are as big as my torso. And there's a camera and monitor in the aisle. I refuse to believe that those are highly theftable. It wouldn't be possible to carry the jugs without holding onto them and they are too big to conceal under a coat unless you are Andre the Giant size. A security guard at the door should do. |
Broad brush self-referential projective racism. |
I think it's some kind of mental illness. She was caught twice years ago. She has had a hard time finding a job because she has a record. She says whenever she has had a stressful day it's even worse. How TF do you steal from COSTCO?? |
