The antisemitism is real.

Where can I find something like MindyKNOWS for Cornell?
https://mindyknows.com/

Should I post on a local site?

Cost is not an issue. Happy to pay a monthly fee.

Btw, I think this is a huge business opportunity....

"Business opportunity"??? Holy crap. Y'all don't even see what you are doing to your kids. Just stop. Repeat after me: College is a time to LEARN and GROW. What are you going to do when they get to their workplace? Hand deliver their lunch? Do their job for them? Listen to yourselves.

I think this is absolutely absurd, and would never use it for my kid. But I also think that enough people would that there is a business opportunity.

This. This is a service for young adults with special needs. If my NT child needs this, I will have failed him.

Because infantalizing young adults harms our whole society.

Wait until you realize that the college mom is a creepy male disguising himself. When you consent to a stranger coming to your child's room, beware of what you get.

Because it’s not normal. You’re treating 18 or 19 year old kids like elementary school kids. I text my DD daily at college and I just sent a care package with goodies and several things to treat a cold or flu like Tylenol, decongestant, etc. Came in handy for her and roommate. As for checking in, are kids so clueless that they can’t contact the RA and they don’t need a mom to drive them to airport. They can Uber or Lyft or take the subway.

This isn't that big of a deal. Esp if you have the $$$ to spare.

I work with HNW folks and this isn't weird. People who do this are the same ones who have chef meal delivery services weekly (even though a parent SAH), full time housekeepers and laundress, drivers for their kids etc.

Its called "continuing family member assistance" and sometimes families will hire someone in the college town part-time to do this type of a job (including, laundry, food and errand service, driver, travel arrangements and possibly security).

People love her and pass her name around. You pay her a monthly fee. She cooks/checks in, buys groceries, drives them to target/WF and airport. Also to sports or dr appts.

Tulane, WashU

I sense a trend of the demographic of kid that needs this

Let’s just say the stereotypes are true

Wow. I am that demographic and my freshmen kid got sick and I sent them a care package and moved in with my life. I think this is the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. Antisemitic much?

DP. Is this actually what was meant??? I have never associated any of those schools with having a significant Jewish population!

That’s absolutely what was meant. They both do and are known for it. What do you think was meant?

Yep, it's an example of the antisemitism that's so prevalent and acceptable on DCUM and elsewhere. The Jew is coddled, rich, and weak, right? (And BTW I am Jewish and none of my family our friends have or would use such a service.)

Yep, and it’s totally fine that post is still there.

Damn, why is the admin allowing this. DP here.

NP. If he had taken that post down, I wouldn't have seen it and your response. I'm not Jewish and wouldn't have picked up on it's meaning at all, and thus its inherent antisemitism. Calling out posts/posters can have great educational value. That's truly a vile statement. However, I report a lot of posts, so if you do, Jeff will most likely take it down.

Half the people on this thread are saying it’s super great to be coddled so ?????

Then you can use a delivery service like Walmart. They often can delivery food and other things within a few hours.

It is sad to me that parents would do this. Give your kids some credit. Let them figure things out for themselves. They are far more capable than they realize. Every step they take on their own is a step in the right direction.

Because some of us thing infanitlizing 18 year olds is a negative thing and if other parents are babying their college age kids our kids will be like “why not me?” When the normal and age appropriate thing is to let them figure these things out themselves!
