NCSL Rec League

They should have notified the clubs that they were allowing a new team in FREDERICKSBURG to join so clubs could be on notice and could refuse to be scheduled to play there. Sneaking in a team two hours away that didn't participate in SFL and just putting games on the calendar and hoping people wouldn't notice is BS.

Fredericksburg should have planned to play all away games if they are trying to benefit from participation in a league that is located nowhere near Fredericksburg TBH. Just because they play on the travel side doesn't mean its appropriate for them to play on the rec side.

Is it better to reschedule those games to become home team games in Herndon or wherever and the game will actually be played, or leave the games on the calendar and have no one show up to play?

The FFC teams already only have 7 games scheduled instead of 8 (which is weird).

I feel bad for the kids, only getting 7 games on the schedule in the first place, and then not getting to play home games because teams will forfeit rather than drive there. They might only get to play 3-4 actual games the whole season. And all the teams scheduled to play them at home will lose out on playing a game as well, which is unfair.

It's a done deal that the rec teams will NOT show up for a game in Fredericksburg. The league F-ed up big time trying to sneak them in unnoticed.

They wanted the fees from the Fredericksburg teams and now they have a huge PITA on their hands.

They will be de facto declining the game anyway, by forfeiting in advance OR only a handful of kids actually showing up to play. There is no downside to forfeits in this league, no one cares about standings. The SFL last year had a huge problem just trying to get coaches to send in the scores. Even winning coaches wouldn't bother.

But when that happens, the league doesn't care. They got their money from both the teams stuck with away games in Fredericksburg AND the Fredericksburg teams. The NCSL doesn't care if kids actually get to play their games. They got their money from both sides already up-front.

I think the league would rather it be the clubs forfeiting than them pulling away games. I think NCSL should admit it was a mistake, stick the fredericksburg teams in bottom travel brackets for this season so the kids get games and then put in geographic restrictions in the fall and going forward

Its easy to reschedule games.

The team rep just has to request a reschedule for an away game and offer up a field space and time to switch it to a home game. If the other team rep refuses to switch it to a home game, the game just doesn't get rescheduled at all.

What were they thinking adding Fredericksburg to the rec league? There's a reason they weren't in the SFL. The SFL scheduler put a lot of effort into keeping games X miles apart. The division 1 teams went farther of course, but not two hours away!

The only other new team they allowed into the league is FCV-Ashburn Rec. I don't know anything about them but obviously, Ashburn is a normal location for games.

agree that this would be a fair solution.

2 things.
1. They wanted their fees.
2. The NCSL has a travel mindset. It probably didn't even OCCUR to them that Fredericksburg was absurd for a DC Surburban rec league, because their travel teams go there.

This. The only downside to forfeiting is your kids get cheated out of their 8th game, but the bigger clubs can just set up an intermural game between their own teams to make up for it.

Our club rep said he was waiting to hear back from NCSL but that 100% we wouldn't be driving to Fburg

Our club rep's daughter is on my dd's team. She was HOT. Said the league didn't mention any new clubs being added at their pre-season meeting AND that they were keeping the SFL's geographic rules for scheduling in place when they did the schedules. Definitely seems like they tried to sneak them in without anyone noticing.

To be fair, their second divisions do say "east" or "west" on them.

We are in Sterling. That's like as far as possible away from Fredericksburg. I do not think they took locations into account at all.
