March SAT results?

Son’s math went up by 10 points but verbal dropped 40 points. 1390 overall after a 1420 in fall. (And 1480 on PSAT). He is pretty torn up. He felt great about math but only got a 710. He was scoring closer to 790 on practice tests. Wish we could see what he missed.

Why are you saying >750? Why wouldn’t you say the score?

Exactly, this is an anonymous forum. No reason for these shady tactics.

Because I don't know yet what his exact score was, I just got a quick text from him without full details. I can report back when he gets home from practice if you must know, but for the sake of this discussion does it really matter whether he got a 760 or a 780?

I think you can -- at least using Khan Academy?

My kid did better on verbal (up 30 points from the paper) but on math slid slightly by 30 points. Super scoring kid is at 1490, wants to crack 1500, will take again.

Still odd. More appropriate is stating the score b/c you know it or wait to post until you know it. Also odd your child would text you quickly about results yet it wouldn't contain 4 numbers, which would be the briefest test with significant information.

Is it really true school scores won't drop until April?

Anonymous wrote:So seeing the second Math module should mean over a 600, right? And assuming some of it was found to be easy/doable, hopefully over 650?

Not necessarily. There is an over lap range, starting at around 480 IIRC. So a kid whose first module is just under the score needed for the harder second one and then aces the easer second module can actually score higher than a kid who just squeaks into the harder one and bombs it.

WOW. That's a great math score.

My kid did better in the English and much worse in the math than expected based on PSAT. He said he ran out of time in the math -- and now we know that not answering a few questions really brought his score down. He got a perfect math score on the PSAT. Got 80th percentile (650) on the SAT. Not so happy with that. It is still fine for where he plans to go. But, I want him to take it again b/c I know he can do better and I just want him to have that "better" score on his mental resume for the rest of his life. We'll see. Fortunately for us, he's a low-pressure kid when it comes to college.

When you are at the top consistently, you really have no idea what the curve is.

DP: FWIW, my DC is fairly sure he didn't make the harder module this time (always did in practice, so he sensed the difference and thought the second module was too easy). Scored 630, when practices were always over 700. So it does seem you can get over 600 without making the harder module. Will take again as this was so very not his best.

Tell him to stop whining. My daughter got a 600 on thr math.

Why does the new digital SAT not provide the raw score details like the paper SAT did? On the paper SAT we knew exactly what DD’s strengths and weaknesses were. With the Digital SAT we have little to no info on what DD got right or wrong.

That’s shocking - 1480 (out of 1520) on the PSAT, dropping to 1420 and then 1390 (out of 1600).

In addition to the new delivery format, seems like there must be a time management issue, right?

Mine went way down in math and up in English compared to the two paper tests from the fall. The math was crazy hard this go around and I thought the score would be scaled as such but it doesn’t seem to be. I don’t think CB has mapped out all the kinks with the digital yet. Maybe they don’t have enough data to scale it. I don’t know, but my child may be about done with the SAT. Score is good enough for schools on the list. It will just have to be what it is.
