Is it tacky for adults to order fish & chips from the children's menu during Lent?

No of course not. Order whatever you want.

That’s on them to figure out pricing. Totally fine, OP. Especially as a take out order.

Restaurants often take a loss on kids meals. It’s gross to order from the kids menu for the whole family- you should offer to pay more.

Maybe take a bunch of napkins and condiments, too, so that you don't have to buy any this week.

No it’s not tacky. Leave a generous tip and nobody will care

Restaurants are price gouging lately. Sorry restauranteur, nobody is going to offer to pay more out of the goodness of their hearts.

Why should you tip the hostess more if the restaurant is selling the meal at a loss? How does that help the restaurant?

You are so, so weird.
It’s not “gross”. Restaurants rarely do special kids offers for takeout - even if a restaurant does some kind of half price for kids under 12 for eat in deal, they are never going to do that for takeout because there’s no benefit to the restaurant and no way to identify the age of the people. For takeout, order whatever you want. I’m sure the kids portion in this restaurant is just a smaller size, for less money. That is why the OP wants it, because it is less food.

How would they even know? No one cares especially if it’s carry out. No one questions you. Just pay your bill. I rarely tip for carry out. Fight me!

Many restaurants restrict Children's meals to those 12 + under. You know that OP. Do as others suggested and order 2 adult meals to share. If you're so cheap, just get frozen fish sticks and make them yourself. Cheapskate.

According to OP the kids meal is $9. For some potatoes and probably a small piece of white fish. They are not taking a loss on that, believe me.

Which restaurants do that for takeout?

There's no reason to give you the "with child" discount if there is no 'with". But feel free to sneak it through because the owner might not notice, I guess.

Really? What about a dad with three kids ordering? Can't happen?
Also, I order food for the kids when I'm not eating. Can't happen?
This thread is weird. It's takeout food.

Then you should order regular price meals.

You can also make free lemonade from the free water, sugar, and lemons, but, again, our Lord and Savior is watching you do it.

Why?? You are insane! Kids meals are just less food for less money. The end! What other strange rules do you have regarding other people’s restaurant orders?

And although it isn’t the same at all, if someone really did want to add some lemon slices to water with sugar.. then so what?

It's not true. Kids meals are a loss leader for restaurants. They want families so they take the hit on kids meals. It's so cheap to order kids meals as an adult- nevermind if the whole family is doing it!

Again, even if that were true (which it is not in all restaurants), how can it be true for takeout? How many restaurants do you know that offer that kind of “attract the families, loss leader” deal for takeout?

This is completely and totally fine. And a $5 tip is also fine/good. Takeout is not the same as dining in.

Amazing how many people think this is acceptable?

You know why it’s called a kids menu? Because it’s for kids. Are you a kid? No? Then order an adult item or cook a kids portion at home. It’s not difficult.
