Is it tacky for adults to order fish & chips from the children's menu during Lent?

You're ordering to go. Nobody cares. Nobody will think about it but you. Focus on more important things.

I thought $5 on $36 (4x kids meals) was a decent tip?

I guess.

No that is not even 15%

It’s probably fine for takeout.

Nobody knows . . . besides the manager, hostess, and cooks who see your name on the ticket. Their order system will permanently link this scam order to your other orders. Then they see you when you come pick it up. Are you all just social outcasts who couldn't care less about your reputation and social standing? I would never do this at a neighborhood restaurant we frequent. All to save, what, $10? $10 to be known as low-trust miser. Dream big.

The kid's menu fish & chips at a local restaurant is the perfect size and it's one-third the price of the regular menu fish & chips. But I feel a bit skittish ordering 4x kids meals, which are for two adults and two kids. This is an online order, to-go. We aren't total misers, we would tip $5, if it makes any difference.

I love fish and chips but haven't found a good place around here. Would love if you could suggest or drop the name if you are in DMV.

And ideally adults don't order kids menu items but to me that's more for table service. Online order is fine although it must be amazing if it can survive takeout.

Hawk and Griffin in Vienna is a British pub with great fish and chips.

This isn't difficult: Order two regular menu fish & chips entrees and don't tip a cent.

I really don’t see what the problem is. I don’t think it’s a scam. The restaurants offer a smaller portion for a smaller price. If they are relying on the adult meal to subsidize the kid’s meal they could structure their pricing differently, require the purchase of an adult meal with any kids meals, set an age limit, etc. American portions are infamously oversized and there are lots of people (elderly, dieters, economizers, etc.) who would prefer the smaller portion. It’s basically the same concept as just ordering appetizers or desserts, and people don’t consider that a scam.

20% of $36 is $7.20, so $5 tip would be low.

How is this a scam order? how is this even a concern? These items are on the menu, you’re allowed to order whatever you want. Are there people here who think it’s a scam if I just order apps and no main? Do I have to get a dessert? What if I just want sides?

20% on a takeout? As if.

If you’re only ordering it for tradition’s sake and you don’t even like fried fish, order 1 adult size fish and chips, split it between the 4 of you, and then supplement the meal with other foods you like. Treat the fried fish like an appetizer. Why would you waste time strategizing the cheapest way to order 4 servings of something you don’t even like?

There's no reason to give you the "with child" discount if there is no 'with". But feel free to sneak it through because the owner might not notice, I guess.

Really? What about a dad with three kids ordering? Can't happen?
Also, I order food for the kids when I'm not eating. Can't happen?
This thread is weird. It's takeout food.

Then you should order regular price meals.

You can also make free lemonade from the free water, sugar, and lemons, but, again, our Lord and Savior is watching you do it.

Who actually receives the tip when you order takeout?
