I’m the PP. My employer does too, and even has a direct billing arrangement with Equinox. But I’d have to pay taxes on it (so essentially 40% of the membership fee), which is still not worth it to me. |
One life premium or whatever they call it is $80/month and I can access a ton of clubs. Not the cleanest on earth but I wear pool slides. I shower there all the time and go straight to work. If people are sensitive to care about the smell of cheap gym shampoo it’s somebody I don’t want to be working with anyhow. |
Then why are they nasty? |
Because of gross people like you who can't go 5 minutes without bacne and stinking. No one wants to follow that in a shower. |
Because the general public uses them. I never liked pool showers either, even as a kid. Or public restrooms. You have no idea about the hygiene practices of anyone you’re sharing the shower with. I’d rather use my own, clean shower. Also - don’t you have to bring your own toiletries? That sounds like a PITA. I realize they have Kiehl’s or whatever at Equinox, but I have my specific shampoo and body wash I like to use. |
Exactly. Plus the "fresh towels" - how fresh are they really? You don't know where they've been or how well they were laundered. I don't get the appeal of showering at the gym AT ALL. |
Personally I didn't ever shower or change at a gym. I go in, do some cardio, go home. I don't sweat a ton but I could certainly bring my own small towel. I always rode home like this. Our cars are remarkable clean.
Now we have equipment and weights at home but I get not caring if you aren't a stinky person and don't have to shower to be at work right after. |
Because people don’t have infinite time. Sure, if you are farting around on the elliptical for 2 hours total a week maybe you have the extra free time not to shower at the gym. But others of us that put in more time don’t have time spilling out all over the place. Get some $15 addidas slides for the shower on Amazon and you might get some immune system benefit from actually exposing yourself to other humans. |
Well, others of us get up earlier to go to the gym earlier and make it home in time for a shower. Everyone has to do what works for them in their lives. For me, I find showering at the gym in no way preferable to showering at home, so it's worth it to arrange my schedule accordingly. |
That’s fair, but I was responding to this “ I don't get the appeal of showering at the gym AT ALL.” And some people - myself included - are already up earlier and simply don’t have the time to go home with all the training being done and everything else going on. To suggest it’s impossible to understand is just silly. |
The showers at Lifetime in Clarendon are way nicer than my home shower. And the toiletries are great. |
This. Plus I bring my own toiletries/hair masque/face masque and enjoy the quiet. |
It's equally silly of OP not to understand why someone would not want to shower at the gym! |
My house is much quieter than a gym locker room! Everyone is still sleeping when I get back from the gym. I would not want to haul all that with me and spend extra time there doing a face mask. |
+1. But OP wasn’t here for actual answers. They just wanted to call everyone who does agree gross and smelly. Everyone has their own preferences. Normal people know and accept that. |
