Do teams from class 6, 5, and 4 ever compete against each other or is the gap too wide? |
|
It would be really cool if they took away all the classes for lacrosse. Just put all schools in the same classification and play. Will never happen, but would be awesome. I would say the "gaps" depend on the years. For example in 2016, Dominion (4A) was dominate. Probably the best team in the state at any level. 2019 Briar Woods (5A) was probably the best in the State that year. Yorktown in 2021 (6A) undefeated and above everyone else. Riverside in 2022 (5A) destroyed everyone that year, and beat Gonzaga, I don't think they would had lost to any public that year. Always a cool conversation to have at the end of each season. |
Don't sleep on McLean in the Liberty. They beat Langley twice last year. Could be the best McLean team since they had Morris and Gibbons. |
Wow you have been around for awhile! Haven't heard those name since LaxPower. Wasn't Bullock the coach of those McLean teams (now at Oakton)? I felt like back then there was no separation of classes, when did it change? |
2014 was the first year of two state championships for lacrosse, 6A and 1A-5A. Before that it was just a single state championship. NOVA 6A teams won every championship up until 2014 and the move was designed to give other areas a chance. Now the rest of the state is starting to catch up - Loudoun teams are good every year and Richmond area teams are getting better fast, with Atlee fully caught up and Cosby getting close. |
Liberty will be by far the most competitive district. Yorktown, McLean, and Langley all in the mix. Wouldn't be surprised if any one of those teams won it. |
Worek (Riverside) was the coach of those McLean teams. The Robinson/Chantilly battles in 2015 were great. |
Yorktown has one of the best attack in the state and as well as that they have a freshman who is on the 2027 madlax team. Does anyone have more information on yorktown? |
Nate Randles, kids a stud and will most likely start varsity as a freshman. Could be the best freshman player I’ve ever seen and will honestly be a key player in this patriots team |
Wow your son sounds like a heck of a player. Hope he has a great Spring. |
