Sure he did. Why did he "have" to attend? Was it part of his probation agreement with the court?

No, it was the acceptance offer he received. He wasn't going to be 18 in time for the start of fall semester, so he wasn't offered a study abroad option. Oakland was his only option. So he took it - and again - hated every minute of it. Do continue to snark, though. You just sound idiotic.

You sound disproportionately angry.

Not at all - just responding in kind to the PP (you?) who felt the need to be incredibly rude.

But why wouldn't he choose another option, if that option was so offensive to him? Makes no sense.

Our DC chose NEU over UVA, without hesitation.

He didn't know ahead of time how bad Oakland would be - how could he?

He didn't even visit?

Oakland campus is actually not bad at all.
It's not like a few building on the streets.
It used to be a separate independent college of its own in an interesting location.
UCBerkeley and Northeastern were competing to acquire it.

The campus itself looks nice. But the surrounding area not so much. It’s not downtown Oakland, but if you do a Google maps tour of the surrounding streets, all you will see is a gas station and a sketchy looking bodega.

Mills College Oakland, while taking in a few hundred freshmen, is even more zoning constrained than the Boston campus. The chances of it ever being that consequential to Northeastern is small. Northeastern outbid UC Berkeley for the land. Berkeley wanted to make the campus into dorms. Mills College wanted their women's SJW programs to continue.

In the end, Northeastern won out. I personally would not want to spend a year at the Oakland campus, but if you're into CS or gender studies, it is a viable pathway into the Boston campus.

The campus has shuttles. Why are there so many neu posts, with so much bad information? Did the moderator give up on the trolls? Are all schools given this much attention? Or is there a stalker?

Fascinating!

In fact, it's even bigger than Boston campus.

Boston campus: 73 acres
Oakland campus: 135 acres

fyi for comparisons
Brown: 146 acres
MIT: 168 acres

Good for your DC. Some will like the programs, others will not, as with most things in life

The PP was simply stating their DS's best friend (so not word of mouth, someone they know well) choose NEU and had to attend Oakland for a year and that they did not like that campus and the experience. Those are facts. They are not a Troll. Yes, there are kids who attend these programs and are NOT happy with the experience. Just like at every university. You seem to have an issues with facts not going along with your beliefs.
The OP is asking about people's experiences with the programs.

+1
I’m the PP and to be clear, the boy in question is like a son to me as he and my DS grew up together. So the information I shared was absolutely straight from him. Yes, the Oakland campus is pretty, but it is surrounded by… Oakland. He said he and his classmates felt completely trapped there. He said he would never have accepted had he known what the experience would be like.

Do you think there is only one person who thinks it is a great program? With 100k applicants? Not sure I understand why you are being so antagonistic? According to OP, they were not looking for hearsay, only first hand accounts. Of which you clearly have none. It's okay, you will be okay.

I know people on the Oakland campus and also the London campus (first hand), and they do not have any of the experiences you describe. There are more than enough resources open to accepted students and their parents. Of course, none of those resources involve an anonymous message board. Interesting.

Wondering why any of the trolls feel compelled to chime in, when they so obviously don't know anyone with recent (last couple of years), first hand experience. Are they that bothered about where someone else's kid is attending - do sane adults really act that way? Seems clear that the trolls were not accepted, because not only is their information inaccurate, the trolls keep asking for correction of their outrageous assumptions - as if anyone owes them information about the school?

If you didn't research anything, why are you so upset that you were not admitted, trolls?

Curiouser and curiouser.......
