They won’t have access to LSE or Bocconi level for example. It’s fine. Enjoy the three months, travel a lot, then enroll in Spring and pick things up from there. It’s all good. Pick the location your kid hasn’t been to/has easiest access to weekend travels. There’s a LOT of weekend travel. So get okay with your kid hopping around Europe (if they haven’t done that before). Also, at 18, they are drinking age in Europe. So, be okay with that too. Mostly it’s an adjustment for You. The kid will bond with some new friends and will be fine assimilating to campus in the spring.

Unless they're stuck going to Oakland.

My kid would never pick Oakland, never.

My friend's kid had no choice. She was told Oakland or nothing.

My friend's dd was accepted Oakland/London then Boston. She got online the summer before school looking for a spot in a Boston dorm. Got it, and was able to do 1st semester at Boston and is now in London. She avoided Oakland.

Oh wow. This sounds like an amazing experience for an independent student. Great job!

What kind of school lets kid backdoor bypass which campus they are assigned to!? These NEU stories get better and better.

If you do not understand the procedure, and/or were rejected, it is not up to people in the know to educate you and correct the false information you seem intent on repeating.

Many selective schools just say nothing.

Name another selective school that engages in these geographic antics.

Yeah, no way that happened! If admitted Global Scholars, that is your only pathway. Same for NUIn. They do not change it---because if they did, they'd be inundated with everyone wanting that---very few want to spend a semester in Oakland.

There are two such pages, both quite active. I have a Northeastern sophomore who’s having a fantastic experience at the school (just started first co-op) but they were in Boston during their first year. I know one kid who spent their first year in London but don’t know anyone who did NUin, though I’m sure my student does. We are very happy with the education our student is getting, and their first co-op is an outstanding opportunity. Good luck!

Another good FB page is Paying For College 101. All kinds of questions get asked and respectfully answered.

I'm the PP about the dd who bypassed Oakland. All I know is that the parents & dd got online at an appointed time to look for (newly vacated? extra?) rooms in Boston dorms. The spots filled almost immediately, but this family got a bed for their dd. She did her 1st semester in Boston.

My niece was in Dublin and London as a freshman. She was ok with the locations, esp London, but would've preferred to matriculate at Boston directly. Now in Boston as sophomore and living in the hotel that is turned into dorm so she has her own bathroom. Her Dublin and the London cohorts weren't tight, they dispersed after first semester as the kids did diff things in diff places. So she feels like she is a freshman again. Luckily she likes her new roommate.

Now imagine her situation, except she's rooming in a campus apartment with 3-4 Juniors/seniors who have no interest in having a new friend who is a sophomore. They have their lives and are busy. It can and does happen.

Lucky kids. Better than spending four years in Iowa or North Dakota.

Isn't UCBerkeley in Oakland?

California is kind of the opposite of Boston.

But when I went to research what was up, I figured out that it was a whole college campus that got absorbed. I expected it to be urban Oakland, CA but it was not. Anyway...not buying or selling...but I think geography is very important to most collegegoers.

It seems OP's made it their mission to come to DCUM to "warn" all the other parents who, like OP, did not do their homework and thought that their kid would be accepted anywhere. That is not how it works, so now, OP is mad. Oakland is great, and the property there is a beautiful campus that NEU took over. I know some students personally (first hand, not rumor or third hand, whatever) that enjoy it, and have gotten so much from their experience. I know this ruin's OP's narrative, but Op's efforts are clearly better spent elsewhere.

Did you read the original post. It was simple question. There is no NEU conspiracy people. Stop being so paranoid.

Did you read the thread, and how it inevitably turned into a debate about NEU? Why do you think OP created this thread? To sing the praises of NEU?

There being more applicants denied than admitted, the mere mention of NEU sets certain kinds of people off - specifically, the ones who were not admitted. OP trying to poorly create plausible deniability does not negate that.

Good luck OP, whatever happens to you. Your OP is obviously not about NEU, at all.

Unless I missed it, there is no proof that the OP has even come back to comment on this thread.
