The OP mentions none of those things.

Correct- I applaud your reading comprehension. OP is talking about a dog in her neighborhood that barks and has not lunged at anyone or been aggressive. It says it right in the OP.

What?

She specifically says the dog barks and lunges at everyone who walks by the front yard.

Dog people are something else.

Here's what OP said:

But recently, the neighbors have begun keeping the pit bull in their front yard, on a leash that’s about 20 to 25 feet, long but not long enough to reach the sidewalk. The pit bull barks aggressively at children passing by and is scary to them. It is also scary to adults.

It makes no mention of a lunge. And barking and lunging together are very different than just barking.

Why don’t you (and OP’s neighbors and all other pitbull owners/apologists) stop terrorizing your neighbors? NO ONE likes your dog. Your dog is a monster. And you’re an idiot.

Actually you should look in the mirror. If "no one" liked pit bulls than no one would own one, right?" which is obviously incorrect! So did you find the idiot? hint...it isn't the pit bull owner

Pit bull owners are aggressive and selfish people, and I don't consider them worthy of my consideration.

Normal people who are not completely insane do not like pit bulls

Right back at ya! Some pit owners are bad but most of us are good people.

Pit bulls are banned in the UK. Just a matter of time before we catch up to that sensible decision.

I genuinely hate pit bull owners at this point. It’s not much different than walking around with a live grenade IMO. If pit bulls ONLY posed a danger to their owners then it would be different. But it’s outrageous that whenever I take a walk through my neighborhood, or let my kids play in the yard, or take my dog to the dog park, I have to be on my guard in case their “friendly” savage animal decides today is the day it’s going to snap.

I assume most pit bull owners were unable to get a real dog (one for which you have to wait on a list and then pay a not insignificant chunk of money for) and that’s why they defend their hideously ugly, volatile, and dangerous dogs so vehemently. So they can pretend this is the dog they chose and not the one they got stuck with.

You should admit you are elitist and classist. A pure bred dog does require you to pay $$$. I'm talking about the four breeds that make up pit bull.

As for rescues why don't you think people choose them? And why don't you consider them dogs? They aren't cats or cows for goodness sake.

We are all entitled to our opinion regarding what we like and your opinion is not worth more or less than mine. But you don't have the right to ban my dog because you don't like him

If your opinion is that a pit bull is an appropriate pet, then my opinion is ABSOLUTELY worth more than yours.

And I don’t want to ban your dog because I don’t like him, I want to ban your dog because he is a danger to society.

Pit bull apologists are so tiresome.

I've basically moved to keep my kids safe from a neighbor's pitbull. They refused to keep the animal in their yard and it would wander into ours and once stole food right out of my kid's hand. The kids were small and unpredictable and I just didn't feel safe with that dog coming over whenever it wanted. It wouldn't leave the yard when I'd try to get it to, and the neighbors just did not give a damn.

Actually, you are so wrong. Your opinion does not have any more weight than mine.

Have you heard of the expression innocent until proven guilty? My dog has done nothing and will do nothing. And yet, here you are telling me that I am tiresome and an apologist.

Pitbulls are appropriate as a pet. For everyone? No. But you can say this about a lot of things, including dogs.

Small apartment? Don't get a Grrat Dane
You are an older person? Get a small dog that doesnt pull you down.
Have small children who are rough? Get a dog that is tolerant.

UK also bans lots of dogs. If we haven't banned guns and we have had a lot more of them killing children than pit bulls than we aren't going to universally ban them across the US. Move to the Uk if you are so scared!

I am 100% NOT a dog person an, but my neighbor has the most well trained and well behaved pit bull. They have put a lot of work into making sure the dog is well trained and the owner themselves is constantly making sure their dog is super well behaved. I am mostly afraid of dogs, and this dog disturbs me a hell of a lot less than the crazy other dog that gets out and runs around. I truly think it is the owner and the training, not the dog themselves. If you're going to get a pitbull (and any dog!) you owe it to us all to make sure the behaviour is appropriate.

I do not get the whole pitbull thing. Owners almost seem intentionally antagonistic about it like they enjoy intimidating people around them. For a lot of them it seems like a weird power move.

I am so sorry for the dog. The neighbors abandoned it and probably broke its heart because the dog would bark?! That’s literally how dogs communicate! Arghh. Sooo many crappy people in this world.
