Neighbor has pit bull

If you call the cops to say a dog is in its own front yard and barks when people walk by they will do nothing. As they should.

The problem with requiring a history of aggression is that basically it has to injure or kill a child before anyone considers killing it.

Dogs bark at people from their yards, that's what they do. My poodle barks at anybody walking by. Also, some dogs are scared of little kids, mine is.

I dont see where these dog owners are doing anything wrong or neglectful. My neighbors one house over have a pitbull. I'll admit I'm a tiny bit afraid of them. But in 12 years nothing bad has happened.

Why can't I have nuclear bombs in my house? I have no history of aggression and they're so pretty!

Because that would be illegal.

You basically want to " do something " based on the breed?

They should be bringing it in when it barks. That goes for any dog. I don't see anything else. You can't report a dog or it's owners just because the dog exists and you don't like it.

They walk the pit bull a lot and it has always made me uncomfortable with small children in the street. The pit bull has not been violent yet against anyone. But recently, the neighbors have begun keeping the pit bull in their front yard, on a leash that’s about 20 to 25 feet, long but not long enough to reach the sidewalk. The pit bull barks aggressively at children passing by and is scary to them. It is also scary to adults. Personally, I hate the damn dog. Is there anything that can be done? Get the county involved?

Let me get this straight. Your neighbor owns a dog that you say has done nothing. Barking is not a crime! Just because you are uncomfortable that is not the neighbor's responsibility. You can only control yourself. If you call anyone they will laugh at you.

Barking in their own yard is NOT A CRIME.

Pitbulls are aggressive dogs. They should be banned.

Op said the dog just barked. That is not aggression. People with stupid opinions should be banned. If the dog bit someone than that would be a fact. There are lots of things in life we don't like but, have to deal with.

Ha, hi Karen! Report it for what? Excessive barking yes. But occasionally no way!

It sounds like you don’t like pitbulls, but you live in a state that doesn’t allow breed bans. Only dogs with a history of aggression can be banned.

So once the pit bull injures a child, then you'll be able to call animal control

Yes, correct. You could call just like anytime any breed of dog injure a child.

The child is probably in more danger playing in the street. You can call CPS on the parents after they get injured though. But you have to wait for the injury.

I would look up if you can leave a barking dog in the front yard unattended with no fence.

Why don’t they chain it in their backyard instead? Very inconsiderate.

Pretty sure it doesn't have to be a child, but sure, let's go for drama and end up as a Simpsons meme

I’ll never forget the family in NJ enjoying their yard in their newly-purchased home, when a neighbor’s two pit bulls broke through the fence and killed the three year old and put the mother in the hospital. I do not understand pit bull apologists.
