The club my DD wants to try out for is 5K! DD is short though, so I wonder how much I should really invest in this. She loved playing in MS, but didn't grow as much as she'd hoped. I kind of wish I'd steered her towards a different sport. She made the HS team though and all the girls on the team play club after the schools season is done. |
NP: I don’t know anything about volleyball but it seems to be the same at our school. All tall girls. One of my DD’s tall friends made the team and has never played club (just rec)…and she made the team over shorter girls who HAD played club. Several of the girls are in DD’s friends circle so was a big topic for a week or two LOL. Im sure it is entirely possible height wasn’t the main factor (like I said, I don’t know anything about volleyball)- but the girls on the team are all tall FWIW. |
You must have a very young player. Look at the 17us in your kid's club. If the team is good, there will be more player above 6' than below 5'7 |
We're on the same boat. At the end of the day, it is mostly a tall girl sport. I dont know if I want to invest 15K the next few years when it could be going to something else she'd enjoy or college |
PP here. My DD is only 5'1". It's possible she may not make the club team. I also noticed that on the 17/18 teams the shortest person was 5'7". I think that person was a libero. |
My 8th grader said this too! I think that’s the perception but I have a hard time believing all girls who play volleyball are mean. They do have the cutest uniform and don’t break much of a sweat. |
No. Use logic. It’s less competitive and less difficult than many other sports. It’s for the girls who aren’t quite as athletic, strong, fast or coordinated. |
Must be NJ |
It's both less competitive and more difficult. For a very tall girl, it's the easiest team to make. For a short girl it's one of the hardest. DD's school has a lot of cuts and those include short club players who are probably more skilled than some of the girls who make the team |
I tried to convince my very tall daughter (5’11” in middle school) to give it a try, but everyone was mean, including the coach. |
The other girls were probably afraid of losing their spots, LOL. |
I hate how hard the ball is. Do the players get used to it? |
My kid does basketball and these girls are so tough. It’s an intimidating sport! Volleyball looks pleasant and fun in comparison! |
How could you possibly know that. I know a lot of mean girls called soccer players mean lesbian names. |
Vball interest has definitely been surging in popularity, and i do think that draws some mean girls. We had an awful experience in a local club team where the coaches were complete bullies. The girls were fine, though. Did a clinic before fall tryouts and the girls were fierce competitors and also very very good. My daughter is on the short side (5’2), and loves the game, but slowly realizing that playing on a school or top club team us not likely. |
