Because comparison is normal when establishing norms. People are saying Melania's choice not to be a stereotypical political wife is a problem. Yet, I wouldn't know Kamala's husband if he were standing in my doorway. We hold women to grossly different standards as political spouses. If Melania doesn't want to wave at crowds, let her be.

It wasn't publicized. It was known locally. But it was well covered in the media that she often didn't stay at the WH, so that she wasn't in the WH often is quite well known.
