USAA still tries to contact me and sell me things and it is a firm NO every time.

Travelers was an absolute nightmare to deal with on a large insurance claim. Stay away, stay away, stay away.

+1000

My family had Travelers and won't use them again for that reason! Pure crooks.

The roof company Travelers forced us to use as a sub through their main remediation contractor (we were forced into all of this bcause of the Xactowhatever software insurance uses that no contractor can meet line by line, so they basically never approve anything other than their preferred contractor) did a horrible job on our roof repair and we had to completely redo it after extensive leaking 2 years later when it was beyond warranty.

They are such a sh*tshow.

I was always told that home insurance was purely for disasters so I have never made a single claim even though there may have been some things over the years where I could have done so for amounts around $1000-$2000 after deductible.

I had my Travellerw policy cancelled for making small claims. I just didn’t realize you weren’t supposed to do that. I had a specialty insurance for I think 2 years that was about twice as expensive, then I was able to get a normal policy with Amica. I chose a high deductible (10k) since I now know not to make amall claims!

Yeah, even simple calling to ask stays on your record (even if you don't claim it).

+1 if you are even thinking you have to call about something, at least phrase it as "hey, I'm just planning ahead, so hypothetically speaking, if I were to need xyz, what would my coverage be?"

Do NOT call and say "x happened, will you cover it"

PP you are responding to. Yeah, I made that mistake many years ago with my first home. I was totally surprised when I found out a few years later that it was on my record.
