| Companies don’t HAVE to do business with you. You should find a different insurance provider who wants to provide you with insurance. |
| They don’t want you claiming a new roof is needed after the next minor hail storm or hurricane we get. They don’t want to pay for your roof in the next few years. Just like health insurance, they don’t want to actually pay for things. |
It was never about the roof. If the house is in a disaster-prone area, they are looking to get out of the policy with any excuse they can. |

I will never forgive a certain company (USAA) for Scr#wing me over regarding home insurance. OP please name and shame the company.
USAA still tries to contact me and sell me things and it is a firm NO every time. |
It might not make sense, but it's reality. Two reasons come to mind. Someone who isn't taking care of the roof likely isn't taking of the interior either, increasing the likelihood of a claim. There are many renovation companies who will look for roofs like that and work with the homeowner to make a claim for storm/hail damage. The insurer would rather not have a house in their book of business where they know this activity is happening. |
USAA has been fantastic to us and has even paid out more than once for minor storm damage. They did send us a notice a while back saying they were raising our rates for having a 25 year-old roof so we did have it replaced. After it was replaced, I went onto the website to update the status of the roof and our rates were reduced immediately. |
huh, we have been very happy with USAA. |
so, it’s old. 2-3 years is too close for comfort. Time to replace. |
Yes, it’s normal |
| OP, involve your local jurisdiction insurance commissioner. |
Travelers was an absolute nightmare to deal with on a large insurance claim. Stay away, stay away, stay away. |
What did they do? Spouse and I have had horrible problems with USAA. |
Yep, everyone says that, and so were we. We were customers for years. Then we bought a new (old) house, got everything ready to settle, including the remodelling financing, and USAA almost totally derailed our closing because at the last minute, they declined to give us a homeowners policy. The property wasn't good enough. Mind you this is a 1950s all brick rambler in the NOVA burbs, not some ramshackle falling down shack somewhere. We scrambled, got other coverage, rehabbed the house, and never used USAA for anything again. |
Please expound upon this. Homeowner for 40 years and I’ve never heard of this. |

They gave you zero notice OP?
