That's old for 7th. Does she have developmental issues? If so, I wouldn't be so hard on her. |
NP here. What the hell?? She’s not old for 7th grade. She’s the oldest probably with an Oct birthday, which is the oldest non-redshirted birthday in many school districts in this area. |
My daughter is starting 9th grade as a 13yr old. Going into 7th as a teen is really old, esp a girl. Probably held back |
Yes - as a coach to a group of 13yr olds, I know they all have SNAP and I think only 4 parents think they do. I act like I don't know but I hear them all talking and checking each other's accounts between games. It's always the parents that think their kids are perfect that go behind their backs. I mean we all did as teens. We all lied. |
Why would you think she was held back if she has an October birthday and the cohort birthday range for 7th grade is October 1, 2010 to September 30, 2011? She isn’t, in fact, going into 7th as a teen. School has started and she is 12. Her birthday isn’t for 2 months. Yes, she’s on the older end of the cut off but she is still within in. Your daughter is in the younger end of the cut off range, unless she skipped a grade. |
Is she in public school? I have a going to be 7th grader, and he does not have one friend who doesn’t have a phone. This is how kids communicate now. It’s like not having a home phone in 1989 for her not to have something to communicate with her friends with. |
No it’s not. It’s normal. Cutoff is 9/30. Everyone born 10/1/10 -9/30/11 should be going into 7th grade. |
This is wrong. The kids born in the fall, which is going to school on time in the DMV, will be 13 part way through 7th, 14 part way through 8th, and 15 part way through 9th. A 13 year old 9th grader could be 13 briefly with a September 30 cut off. But would be one of the youngest kids in the class. |
My guess is that you do not send your child to a school in the DC area. |
Why can people not figure this out? It's not rocket science. All the NoVA schools, the cut off is September 30. A child could be 13 going into the 9th grade and turning 14 at any point in September. A child could also be 14 and about to turn 15 on October 5th (for example). |
That's just lazy parenting and logic. Kids without phones communicate with friends just fine. Don't delude yourself with tge idea that a phone with internet access and wifi is a necessity. You are harming your kid, look at the research or at least read Stolen Focus for the cliff notes version. |
My kid is 13 going in as a freshman too. Turns 14 in November. Starting in a different state that had a Dec 31st cut off thankfully. Hearing about older 18-19yr olds graduating high school is strange. Then kids red shirt and you have 20yr old boys graduating. That's insane |
| All the parents that say my kids don't have Snap accounts, yes they do. On their friend's phones at the bare minimum. It's how they communicate. |
You can take it up with the local school boards then. A 7th grader turning 13 in Oct. is grade-appropriate. |
No phone, no socials, easy peazy. |
