Not sure that people born in 2023 are going to run into that many people with strong associations with a song that was released in 1975. Associations with Scooby Doo for Daphne might be a bigger issue!

Molly is very popular as a dog name, if that bothers you.

For me, personally, Michaela is tainted by the surge in creative spellings of it that were popular a while back (McKayla, Mikayla, etc) although I think the original name is pretty.

Fair enough, but it’s so rare that most people who have heard the name at all will know it from the song. The rest will just constantly mispronounce and misspell it

NP. Just for a data point I'm 38 and have no idea what the song is these posters are talking about but do know the name Rhiannon.

I think its a little fussy and long and doesn't have a natural nickname though. I like Daphne and Virginia the best from your list.

Just to humor you:

Annabel - a bit boring, but pretty
Cadence - it's okay, I like it more than some of the other super weird names on this list, but would never use it
Celine - fine if you are French, sounds kind of ridiculous if you are not
Athena - like as name but has some weird connotations (you have to be very, very careful with those Greek goddess names)
Elizabeth - boring, don't need a "name expert" to identify this, lol
Amalia - too overwrought, prefer Amal
Beatrice - nice, while not traditional, I like the nn Betty for Beatrice
Octavia - great connotation, bit of a mouthful, Tavi could be cute
Rose - boring, pretty
Carolina - boring, pretty, would probably just go with Caroline
Bartholoméa - is this a joke
Francesca - sounds like a name I would have given one of my dolls when I was in 1st grade
Viera - makes me think of the retirement community in Florida
Nazarene - very bible-y?
Harper - again, who needs a baby naming expert to recommend a top ten name
Lively - why not just name her Pretty or Smart or Interesting?
Simone - another one that is great if you are French and sounds pretentious AF if you are not
Electra - honey, no
Valentina - this name is getting very popular and it's just so much name, I think all these girls are going to go by Val later
Marie - pretty, simple, boring
Hillary - nope, too soon
Astoria - like the neighborhood in Queens? what?
Margot - pretty, boring, the "t" makes it pretentious
Marla - Maples? Come on.
Geneva - What is with the place names? Just use Genevieve like a normal person.
Noelle - Pretty, very Christmas-y
Theodora - okay
Felicity - better than a lot of the names on this list
Cosette - stoooooop with the French fetish, are you French
Vivienne - pretty, also one of the better names
Eloise - cute but who be a no for me because her whole childhood people will be saying "like at the plaza?" -- she will get sick of it
Harlow - pretty, I like
Zuri, pretty, I like
Olympia - beautiful but tough for a little kid I think, not great nn potential
Delphine - omg just move to France, we get it you think French names sound "aristocratic"

Meredith was on one of my lists but vetoed by my DH because he claims he's never heard it before (??? sometimes I think he's an alien) and it sounds to his ear like "Merry-Death." We both get full veto power so it's out, and also now I'll never see that name without thinking Merry-Death, I guess. Thanks, DH.

I do like Megan, though! I will test it out with him. Do people have spelling/pronunciation thoughts on that one? Meghan? Megan? Meagan?

Also, wildcard, but the name Megan made me think of Brooke, which I like. Thoughts on that?

At first, I thought we just had different taste bc the only name I like from your list is Molly. I actually love Molly and have no issue with the “it’s a nickname” idea, I am a person who feels strongly about nn names bc I hate my full name and have used my nn my whole life, wish it was just my name.

But then Megan is another of my favorites. I also love Morgan. I have a Reagan (rhymes with Megan) and wish I had used one of these two instead. I am a big fan of the Megan spelling and common pronunciation.

I like Brooke fine. Love Brynn if that falls in line for you.

Reagan rhymes with Megan? What?

Reagan=ray-gan whereas Megan=Meg (short e sound, not mayg)-an

I was guessing Ree-gun and Mee-gun.

I have a pretty standard American accent (no one says I have an accent) and Reagan and Megan rhyme to me. Ray-gan May-gan

Have you thought of Maeve or Maude? Magdalyn?

I like Maeve 10000x better than Molly. Molly sounds like an Irish washerwoman

My favorites of these are Maxine and Thea.

I have never heard anyone say May-gan. I grew up in the south and have also lived in the Midwest and Pacific Northwest. Known lots of Megans. It has always been pronounced Meg (rhymes with peg) Anne.

OP here and I guess I've actually heard it both ways. I say Meg-an, but I've heard people say May-gan. Which is actually a strike against this name for me, I think -- I don't want pronunciation issues. I also like the name Laura but I've discovered that there is debate on how it's supposed to be pronounced and I just don't want to wade in.

Probably also a strike against Theodora unless we went by her full name or did a nn like Teddy or Dora (both of which I think are cute but I don't think suit our family as well).

And I'm convinced by the Maxie/Maxine debate to drop that one as well.

Also ruling out Michaela, Molly, and Calliope for various reasons (I'm really sad about Calliope, it was my favorite for a time but DH has soured on it).

So new list is:

Rhiannon (probably front runner, sorry folks -- I still love it a lot despite the people on here who don't, which is a sign)
Miranda (DH's favorite and I really love it too)
Daphne/Daisy (tied, and we've eliminated Margaret as an option, so these are our reserve "cute whimsy" names if that's what we're feeling)
Virginia/Ginny (splits the difference between our more classic/longer front runners and the cute whimsy names, though we don't like it as well as the others)
Brooke (dark horse)

I think this is a good list that gives us nice options moving forward. It might be good to get it down to three before I get to my due date, but sees like it might be a gamete decision.

Thanks all for the feedback! This was helpful and MUCH better than discussing it with my mom (who will probably hate all these names and tell us we should have named her something insane like Brandy, I don't know).

If you like Rhiannon, use it. NN could be Rhea or Anne. You don't even need a NN.

I am PP who said my Reagan rhymes with Megan and this is why I wish I had just gone with Megan I don't think people question the pronunciation of Megan with this spelling much, the default is like Meg.

it's the RAY-gan that I don't like, especially if it is nasally, which came with grandparents' midwest accent and drove me nuts!

I like your dark horse the best OP!

Additional data point: have no idea what this song is but am perfectly familiar with the name. To the extent I don’t even know when I first encounter it; it’s just a normal name name to me. I also think it’s really pretty! Hope you go with that, OP!

OP, if you like Callie but not Calliope, how about Callista?

It’s…”Rhiannon”. By Fleetwood Mac. You’d probably know it if you heard it.
