Would like feedback (associations, like/dislike, etc.) just to get a sense of how these names might be received. We don't want to tell friends or family about names we're considering because we made that mistake last time and people were really annoying about it. So trying to use DCUM to get that same kind of feedback, but from strangers instead of my mom or our friends, who were sometimes hypercritical or kept trying to push certain names/nicknames on us and just pestered us too much. TIA!

The list:

Rhiannon
Daisy (maybe on its own, maybe as nickname for Margaret)
Maxine
Molly
Virginia, nn Ginny
Daphne
Thea, maybe Theodora as a full name
Calliope, nn Callie
Miranda (no nickname, and we actively dislike Randy as a nn so nervous about this one though we really like it)
Michaela

Also open to suggestions. Only parameters are: no names that start with a vowel, the first initial "M" would be nice but we aren't restricting ourselves to that. Also open to middle name suggestions because we have absolutely no idea!

Friend of mine just named their child Maxine. I like it. They'r calling her Maxie!

I don’t like Maxine but Maxie is a really cute nickname!

The list:

Rhiannon - I just don’t like this and can’t explain why. Too much of a mouthful/doesn’t read well outside of English?
Daisy (maybe on its own, maybe as nickname for Margaret) - yes, I would use Margaret.
Maxine - yes.
Molly - drugs.
Virginia, nn Ginny - love this one and the nickname as a homesick Virginian, but also conflicted about it because virginity is a loaded construct.
Daphne - yes.
Thea, maybe Theodora as a full name - Theo and Thea feel overused lately and I find it comes across whiny/weak sounding in the “shout it across the playground test”
Calliope, nn Callie - yes, but I would feel funny using it without some Greek heritage.
Miranda (no nickname, and we actively dislike Randy as a nn so nervous about this one though we really like it) - I feel the same way. Nix it if you really can’t with Randy. I know I couldn’t.
Michaela - I don’t like this/it’s variants something about it reads early 2010s dance/cheer.

Also open to suggestions. Only parameters are: no names that start with a vowel, the first initial "M" would be nice but we aren't restricting ourselves to that. Also open to middle name suggestions because we have absolutely no idea!

I like your taste. Not all of these names, but a lot of them:

Rhiannon: Not my favorite, but it's cool.

Daisy (maybe on its own, maybe as nickname for Margaret): Love Daisy, and I prefer it on its own, not as a nickname.

Maxine: Don't like this.

Molly: Like it, but it's very Irish Catholic preppy, and none of the rest of your list is. I'd skip it.

Virginia, nn Ginny: Very sweet, and you would think it's ready for a comeback. The only thing I think is that rude little kids might call Virginia either Virgin or Vagina.

Daphne: Like Rhiannon, not my favorite, but it is cool.

Thea, maybe Theodora as a full name: LOVE. My 2nd favorite from your list.

Calliope, nn Callie: Really like it.

Miranda (no nickname, and we actively dislike Randy as a nn so nervous about this one though we really like it): LOVE. My favorite from your list.

Michaela: This name bugs me. I wish it was pronounced Mi-KELL-ah. But it's just like Mckayla, Mikayla, etc., right? Can't get behind it.

Feels very southern for the most part. When I think of Ginny, the only thing that comes to mind is a Clarence Thomas’ wife.

Zoe?
Rosie?
Evangeline (Evie)
Annalise (Annie)
Adelaide (Addie)
Josephine (Josie)
Elizabeth (Betsey)
Minerva (Minna)
Marisol
Marley
Mia
Seraphina (Sera)
Ada

These are nice additions!

Sylvie? Lydia?

I can't get a handle on your taste. Your initial list leans a little cool/exotic, but you liked Megan and Brooke. They don't seem to fit at all

I don't like Maxine or Calliope, but the other names are fine. My favorite is Thea.

I thought of Rhiannon Giddens as well.

I like Virginia, nickname Ginny.

Meredith was on one of my lists but vetoed by my DH because he claims he's never heard it before (??? sometimes I think he's an alien) and it sounds to his ear like "Merry-Death." We both get full veto power so it's out, and also now I'll never see that name without thinking Merry-Death, I guess. Thanks, DH.

I do like Megan, though! I will test it out with him. Do people have spelling/pronunciation thoughts on that one? Meghan? Megan? Meagan?

Also, wildcard, but the name Megan made me think of Brooke, which I like. Thoughts on that?

At first, I thought we just had different taste bc the only name I like from your list is Molly. I actually love Molly and have no issue with the “it’s a nickname” idea, I am a person who feels strongly about nn names bc I hate my full name and have used my nn my whole life, wish it was just my name.

But then Megan is another of my favorites. I also love Morgan. I have a Reagan (rhymes with Megan) and wish I had used one of these two instead. I am a big fan of the Megan spelling and common pronunciation.

I like Brooke fine. Love Brynn if that falls in line for you.

Reagan rhymes with Megan? What?

Reagan=ray-gan whereas Megan=Meg (short e sound, not mayg)-an

Same, and I think Maxie only works as a nickname for a baby. I have a hard time with the idea of calling a 3rd grader or a 10th grader "Maxie". And definitely not an adult.

The only acceptable nickname for Maxine, I think, is Max. I am fine with androgynous or masculine nicknames for girls, but I would be reluctant to call my DD that because not all girls would be comfortable with it. So I'd only use Maxine if I liked the full name a lot, not for the nickname potential -- there are other names with a lot more nickname potential.
