Hamilton or Wesleyan?

We have two kids in a Big 5 school with one already having graduated. We're familiar with the matriculations in the last few years and we can't really remember anyone going to Wesleyan. It does not seem like a popular school to apply to - at least not during the last few admissions cycles.

No it’s not a step down. Same academically as Hamilton and Wesleyan. Depends on what flavor you like.

Nope. Colgate is on par with Hamilton. At this point better than Wes.

What Big 5 schools are your kids at? Wesleyan continues to be pretty popular. Multiple seniors from GDS, Sidwell, Maret, etc. this year chose to matriculate at Wes.

Undoubtedly Wesleyan is more prestigious, diverse, urban, and stronger in arts/sciences/humanities.
Hamilton may have the stronger writing program for undergrads - but Wes still has graduated far more acclaimed writers and journalists.
But if your child likes outdoor activities and a decidedly prep school environment, then Ham is a good choice.

PP who felt Wes not near any shopping - disagree as Wes is located right in downtown Middletown. Cute shops and restaurants. Ham does not have the equivalent within walking distance.
But both great schools
Sometimes it comes down to where you're accepted, in the end. Acceptance rate quite low for both

Agree if you are thinking your child might want to live somewhere other than the NE.

Wesleyan. More prestigious. More interesting graduates. More creative culture.

Depends upon one's major to an extent.

yes -Ham puts emphasis on writing, public speaking. I think Wes has more students who are politically active ,a bit more angst. possibly more difference between athletes/non athletes. Ham might attract a wider range of students that bridge the divide.

Hamilton has a very flexible curriculum (in terms of grad requirements). This appealed to my DD. Not sure about Wesleyan.

But really they are both good and the student should go to the one that feels like a better fit.

According to the holy grail USWNR hamilton 15(but recently 9) and Wes 18.

In other words, no appreciable difference.
