If blue state gun laws were adopted federally across the US, we would see a reduction in gun crime, hands down. So it is important to voice this concern to federal leaders. It's not just about DC, it's about crime across the entire country and beyond.
Might knife crime increase with more limited access to guns? Yes, sure. But is that as likely to impact an innocent bystander, a child out playing in their yard during a driveby? Is it as easy to carjack a car with a knife vs a gun? Nope. |
Yep. "Webster’s subsequent work showed that if neighboring states tightened their gun laws, it could reduce the homicide rate by 25 percent or more. In Baltimore, that could correlate to 75 lives a year. Overall, states with weak gun purchasing requirements rank highest in gun homicide rates, including Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Georgia. Maryland, surrounded by states with weak gun laws, is the anomaly, ranking fifth." So if we actually LISTEN TO THE POLICE EXPERTS, on this issue, we could reduce homicide rates locally. So yes, please, let's actually BACK THE BLUE. |
| Most gun crimes are committed by a small number of people who’ve been arrested a million times. Instead of fruitlessly complaining about what other states are doing, we could just convict the bad guys, put them in jail and (here’s the crazy part) leave them in jail. Google people on trial in DC. Their rap sheets are astounding. |
I follow the police experts and research rather than random folks posting on DCUM. |
DP to add, I think it should be both. |
Then you’ll know the DC police complain a lot about having to arrest the same people over and over. The average homicide suspect has been arrested 11 previous times. |
Yes and I also know that the police I know personally also complain that straw purchase trafficking is a significant issue. Do you think police are so dumb as to only focus on one issie when they are smart enough to see multiple factors? I don't. |
| VA has gun shows all the time, and I believe you can easily score guns at pawn shops. Probably online, too. |
Agree there. We need to put violent repeat offenders and people who committed crimes involving guns behind bars and keep them there. If there's not enough room, free the people who were busted for victimless crimes like possession without intent to distribute, and/or build another prison somewhere where there's cheap and plentiful real estate. |
Red staters are always quick to point at DC crime and say we don't do enough about it. Maybe they should step up and offer to host DC prisoners in their jails. Same with the homeless. If they want to complain about it, they should be prepared to pitch in and do something about it as well. |
| A lot of people here, especially on this thread, only care about crime (ahem, “gun violence”) to the extent they can use it to complain about those mean old Republicans. They don’t want to do anything they could actually do themselves, today, to address the problem. |
You can buy guns in the parking lot of gun shows. Or sell from your house. No one is checking. At. All. |
+ 1 trillion billion quatrillions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
Ever heard of how Obama's administration funneled thousands of weapons to Mexican drug cartels, and then lied about it? |
