| Even Mexican drug cartels source many of their guns from red states in the US. |
Seems like the bigger issue is Washingtonians shooting other Washingtonians usually over inconsequential things. Maybe deal with that rather than pointlessly shaking your fist at some politician in Indiana |
Once again, why not be mad at both CRIMINALS - the criminal that did the shooting and the out of state criminal who bought/trafficked the gun? Oh and the criminal gun dealer who ignored signs of a straw purchase because they didn't care. And I can get mad at the lack of accountability for politicians and law enforcement for ALL of those crimes, why can't you? I can get mad at drug dealers, but also get mad at drug importers. Both are repugnant, aren't they? Both play a role, don't they? |
Exactly. The PP needs to recognize that we need to deal with both the criminals doing the shooting, and the criminals who are supplying them with their guns. The guy in Indiana in effect, becomes an accessory to the shooting in DC. |
The politician in Indiana doesn’t give a f*ck what you think and would laugh at the idea of them being responsible for some dipshit in Washington DC shooting some other dipshit for no reason |
Oh I don't disagree. But things like DC filing lawsuits or doing raids on gun dealers in their home state might make them do a double take. It's also important to call hypocrisy on the GOP in general spouting on about blue state crime when red states don't lack for criminals, just their criminals contribute to far away crime. You seem dumb to be honest, like you have the attitude that "laws don't matter so why bother" I thought GOP was the party of law and order, but it's interesting how selective they are about which criminals they care to foam at the mouth about while completely ignoring other criminals. |
| Wait, I was told that crime is vastly overrated as an issue and doesn’t actually happen to hardly anyone. Now I’m supposed to care about crime when we relabel it “gun violence”? Then I’m supposed to care? And I’m not supposed to blame people here for it, including our politicians? I’m supposed to blame politicians somewhere else? The ones who live 1,000 miles away? So confusing. |
For the love, nobody said don't blame politicians here, but an intelligent look at how criminals source guns from gun tracing studies indicates red states fund DC crime through straw sales. Why should we have tunnel vision rather than a multi-faceted approach? Why ONLY play whack-a-mole with local criminals when we can also work to unplug the whole game which gets its electricity from a red state? |
DP to add, I actually live in a high crime area in DC (Sometimes I feel like those posting here live in far off NW where you complain about crime, but don't actually hear the gunshots or see the cars drive off after drive bys). So I'm VERY invested in reducing DC crime, very angry at local politicians. But I don't think it's a one size fits all answer because there is an absolute problem when gun laws are so successful that blue state criminals and mexican drug cartels look to red states to obtain guns. You can't say gun control doesn't work when local criminals source the weapons from far away. And the reality is, as someone who DOES live in an area with high gun crime, that drive by knifings are frankly far less concerning to me personally, if criminals have to resort to other weapons. |
Exactly lets include the fools who pushed for defunding the police to the point where police officers decided "see ya", quit, and now whole communities are under-policed. Or the worthless left appointed prosecutors who do not do their jobs to prosecute clear and obvious criminals. Or the constant excuse making for criminals by the left. Enjoy the crime you brought on yourselves. |
Yet you Dems support those same cartels with your lack of border control which is national crisis now. |
I'm a middle of the road person who never supported defunding the police; I have very good friends who are MPD and I have a state trooper sibling and police officer nephew. They recognize that gun trafficking is a major issue and it puts THEIR lives at risk. So I ask again: Why don't YOU back the blue to cut down on gun trafficking? Why don't you care that lawlessness in red states are supplying half the guns for the continuous united states along with criminals in Mexico and beyond? Why do you ONLY care about some criminals and not others? Because it's convenient for you to pretend some criminals matter and others don't? You keep deflecting, you don't think straw purchasing and trafficking is a significant issue? You just restate Fox News sound bytes without much concrete to say other than "you support defunding police." No, I didn't (but No, I won't vote red for other issues I prioritize as a woman, mother, and healthcare worker). |
As soon as you inserted Fox News (which I don't watch), your credibility went to zero.. Its like a knee-jerk phrase the left quotes when they can't debate anymore. Go watch CNN or MSLSD with their 15- 20 other viewers. For the record, I agree to go after straw gun purchases, but its also defecting the real problem which is the criminal culture and lack of will / blaming something else for problems the left mostly created. |
huh, that was exactly my reaction when you posted "yet you dems" blah blah blah "defund the police" blah blah blah "you dems" Thank you for finally admitting that straw purchasing is an issue. However, no, I disagree that it's deflecting the real problem. It's a significant part of the problem, not just in DC. |
| Also for what it's worth, while DC is a blue city and cities are generally run by democratic leadership elected by voters, there ARE cities run by republican leadership and their issues are not different. |
