DC Library Meeting room FAQs:
https://www.dclibrary.org/meetingroomfaq They can explicitly cancel reservations if the request “poses a potential security or health risk.” |
that’s not an exemption from the 1st Amendment, sorry. They still need a LOT more for prior restraint. |
The irony is that she and the other members of the ANC "middle finger gang" proclaim themselves to be "progressive" on some things but vote in lockstep for the Libertarian development agenda of the local Trump operative who strongly backed them in the election. |
Someone needs to explain to her that the title of the volunteer job is "Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner" - not "Advisory Neighborhood Commissar." |
This says it's biblical books and that Kirk Cameron will be there. While I don't favor biblical story hour at libraries, they should state clearly that it will be religious. |
you're out of your element |
Something tells me that people following the Brave Books Tour with Kirk Cameron are aware lol |
There is no First Amendment exception for religious speech. If anything, the argument against cancelling only gets stronger because of free exercise rights. |
Very true. They claim to be oh, so "progressive", but on real estate development they're letting a GOP lobbyist for DC Smart Growth lead them around by the nose. Betcha' he even writes their ANC resolutions for them. |
I wonder if she’s even actually a progressive? Her behaviors and social media habits seem to be almost perfectly generated to provide content for rightwing media entities to be like “look at this godless left wing Democrat in the city!!!” She smells like a Manchurian Candidate. |
A Manchurian candidate recruited by a Trumper lobbyist. Sometimes even conspiracy theories can be true. |
Candidates should run against her and any other ANC commissioner who literally gave the middle finger to their constituents (including a local business). |
Word. She ran unopposed last year. I live in Woodley, and I’m embarrassed that she’s our rep. |
I guess this is a difference between you and me. You think that men dressed as women reading books presents a danger. I don't. I think that people who spread conspiracy theories that result in local restaurants being shot up and set on fire present a danger. You don't. We will just have to agree to disagree. |
I'm definitely not going to take my kid to this event, but I am much more in favor of all religious texts being discussed in a library setting from a historical point of view than in a church or a mosque. Of course the kids need to learn about all of the religious texts from a historical and cultural point of view. |
