these are not the kind of links that justify prior restraint under the 1st Amend. The standard is extremely high. |
| How Stalinist like of the local progressive population. Well done, just remember, group think is not a good thing. You will continue to find this out, and then they will come for you. |
OP. 100% agree that this is event is attention-seeking trolling. That's why it's in a very liberal neighborhood in a very liberal city. The activists and ANC rep are playing right into the alt-right narrative. Just to be clear, the reason I believe the event was cancelled is this from the ANC rep: https://twitter.com/haydengise/status/1639425452811976704 https://twitter.com/haydengise/status/1639461636401446914 I'm not trying to spread a false rumor here. I have no firsthand knowledge of whether the event is still happening. It's not a library-sponsored event, just reserved use of a public meeting room, so it's not on the calendar. https://twitter.com/dcpl/status/1639380880333438977 |
That is not an argument that I've made. I have no idea why the event was cancelled (assuming it was). Do you know why? |
Behind a paywall. And, if they were "involved" in the J6 events, why were they not arrested like others? |
Even if this event wasn't cancelled, or was cancelled by the organizers, I don't love the idea of an ANC rep trying to kick a book reading out of the library because of disagreement with the content. |
| Literally the whole point is to be canceled. People need to stop falling for it. Ignore and move on, ffs |

This suggests the event is still on:
https://bravebooks.us/pages/bb-story-hour Hopefully the ANC commissioner has rethought and will stay away.. I’m all for people being allowed to protest if they want to but I think protestors should be very careful around children’s events. There’s a respectful way to voice opposition. I wouldn’t get my panties in a twist about this. Children can’t be indoctrinated by a few story books. It’s fine. Let them do their thing. |
| Sheesh - the ANC Commissioner is out there. I get that DC is very progressive but someone should vote her out. Hopefully we can get rid of the wing nuts on both sides. |
Under what authority did this ANC Commissioner act? Was there notice and meeting discussion that she would take this stance? Or, was this done ex parte? She was not elected to be the library police. It’s interesting that she has found this new calling to library safety yet she’s been completely silent about the rampant uptick in violent and property crime. |
ANC members have pretty much zero power. They can write letters to the Zoning Board of Appeals and DCRA about liquor licenses for/against applications. But that’s pretty much it. This ANC character feels like a Very Online Person. She certainly has no clout with DCPL and cannot tell them how to act. My guess is that the person who applied to reserve the room at the library won’t actually be there to host it. Or did something else that broke the rules, like hosting a commercial event for their new line of kids books. They very likely broke the rules. |
She does not appear to be the brightest bulb on the porch (at the very least she could proofread her own website). But this is what I’d expect from an individual who flips off constituents who disagree with her. |
| Ironic that people who are fundmentally against anything having to do with publicly owned resources or assets need to have an event at a public library. |
It’s more ironic, if you knew anything about Kirk Cameron, that anyone would suggest this event has anything to do with the white supremacy movement. |
| To keep from getting cancelled, Chaya should say she identifies as a man and this is drag queen story hour. |
