Its a lot more scrolling and clicking (apps, entrees, salads are often on different pages) and its just annoying. I agree its not actually rude. Just irratating.

+1,000 We were at a restaurant with a very long, complicated menu, think multiple pages almost like Cheesecake Factory type length. We begged for a physical menu. Restaurant doesn't have them anymore.

Interestingly, even though the shoe bomber tried his attack in December 2001, it wasn't until August 2006 that shoes started needing to come off (for those without Precheck) at security screening.

Sometimes I leave my phone in the car because I want to be immersed in my surroundings.

I don’t think having a smartphone should be a requirement for dining out.

Not really. A lot of paper publications have gone to the wayside... newspapers, magazines, even books. It's not that big of a jump.
