Who did these jobs pre Covid and what has changed that they no longer want them? It was a low paying job before and today it’s still a low paying job. Did the housekeepers get better paying jobs? Did the servers move to different industries with better wages? |
Answers to last two: yes and yes. |
Also, labor pool has been restricted at the lower level by years of significantly lower immigration from Mexico/countries south of Mexico. Been dropping since the late 90s. https://www.macrotrends.net/countries/USA/united-states/net-migration |
I was at Rio in Gaitherburg tonight. There was a line waiting for pickup as all the spaces were full. I think takeout is still very popular. |
Whatever. They were open 24 hrs a day for many years pre-covid. |
This. Some were put into place to help or potentially during Covid but companies realized these policies save them money or create more efficiency. |
Yes, basically. We have far more warehouse jobs like Amazon and lots of flexible jobs like delivery drivers. Pays more, pick your hours, etc. |
And also millions died. |
I'd walk out. |
No, but they asked about status and encouraged vaccination. Now, they don't mention it. |

And what do they matter, right? My dad doesn’t want the vaccine. It doesn’t make him dangerous to others, yet I can’t see him. Others are smarter than me, they buy certificates which aren’t properly checked anyway. It’s just theater. |
They want their patients! |
Yup. This bothers me so much. Feels so rude to stare at my phone. I want to talk to the people I’m with and not have everyone’s phones out. I now ask for paper menus when I walk in. |
