Sad thing is that once your daughter has that first drink in the company of a bunch of friends, she’s a target for assault. But you delude yourself into believing, my kid can handle it.

Make sure you at least encourage your daughter to call 911 if she’s raped or assaulted in any way by acquaintance or stranger.

Catastrophize much? Better not send your DD to college because kids party together ALL. THE. TIME. News flash - most of them don't get assaulted.

What exactly you do imagine they’re doing after a few drinks? Playing cards? No.

Without parents around, they’re doing what they want, especially the boys. Why do you think boys are so eager to buy girls alcohol?

After girls had a little too much to drink, they aren’t really sure in the morning if they wanted to get penetrated, or not.

Fentanyl is really the biggest issue because of the high probability of death.

DP. Do you have a DD in or about to go to college? If you do, how are you going to stop them from going to a party with a bunch of 18+ yr old boys?

My DC's 18 yr old friend found a house that was willing to rent to the 18yr old. I told DC I won't stop them from going to beach week, but no way was I going to rent the place for them.

Why allow your child to go?

Parents should just know a major reason why their daughters may be suffering from depression... sex assault. Most girls aren’t telling their parents about it. Abortions don’t erase the often serious depression caused by sex assault.

Yes parents do this. They stay nearby and then swoop in to pretend they are staying in the house if the landlord is suspicious and starts asking questions or coming by.

It's insane to me that adults do this, but they do.

I am on my 4th kid and I have never heard of a parent renting a house and not staying in the house. Every house I have been familiar with - for my kids or others at their schools - has always had 2-3 chaperones at a time.

It sounds like you have raging anxiety. You should get help for that.

Good that your children are chaperoned by responsible people you trust.

OBX is not having the BS this year with the entitled DMV kids

NP. I was going to post this, too. Can’t believe the entitlement of the A$$home parents in here that would get their kids a rental (a home that someone owns!) and would drop them off there knowing full well what the kids will be doing there. It’s no surprise those are the kids that tear things up. No respect for other people’s property. Unbelievable.

My oldest is in college and they pregame before going to fraternities and will only drink a beer or seltzer that hasn’t been opened and they never put it down and keep the small hole covered by their hand. They always have one sober girl a night to navigate. Not perfect but they aren’t hard partners either.

But beach week 24/7 it is much harder to avoid the risks.

Yup, the OBX is openly telling people they will be looking to arrest Larlo and friends for fake IDs, public drunkenness and anything else they can think of, in addition to the landlords ready to evict anyone violating the terms of the lease (whether it’s too many people in the house, the person signing the lease not staying there, etc.) Hope it’s worth it for this stupid concept that 18 year olds need a week in a beach rental to get drunk and act stupid.

1 in 4 woman are sexually assaulted in college. Maybe not most but 25% in 4 shorts years. That’s scary

Usually those women are drunk. My shy nephew went to Beach Week and ended up sleeping with 7 girls, the girls initiated the act. I'm sure they were drunk too...

My kid just came back from Corolla. At least three parents were at the house at all times. There was drinking, but all under strict rules. No drama, no cops (tho they were patrolling a lot), nobody got hurt, all scholarships and acceptances are intact!

Look, the bottom line is that every single one of you who is allowing your graduate to go to the beach and stay at a house where adults won’t be present knows full well that there will be underaged drinking involved and that the owner of the house doesn’t know it. You’re all enablers. And you’re all pushovers.

The “they will be in college soon enough” doesn’t cut it. When they are in college, they will be living in dorms where there will be rules and supervisors. That’s not going to be happening during beach week.

Don't get drunk
Don't do drugs
Don't drink and drive if you do get drunk
Don't abuse the rental house; it's coming out of your checking account if you do.
Don't f*up your chances at college just for fun for that week

That was pretty much my list too. He is 18, he has an Uber account and his own bank account and I told him to call/text me if he wanted me to come get him.
