Currently but it wasn't always so, especially in the towns that were incorporated a long time ago. |
| It’s all gangs and drugs like the rest of MD. |
nobody is trying to move there "a long time ago." |
I truly didn’t know … but it makes sense. I like in another Rt1 city and am always struck by the contrast when I drive through UP. It felt like it had to be something institutional. |
🙄 |
Yes! Which is also interesting, no? It’s good to know the history, that’s the point. |
NP. Thanks for the history lesson, I guess. |
Former Gov. Of MD used to live there too. They punch announce their weight in terms of influence. But it’s like North Brentwood and Brentwood. One was black. One was white. |
| Back in the 80’s there was a lot of old money waspy folks in the hood. Then when the Hispanics started coming en masse, they all left. Now it’s got a crunchy granola vibe. I just inherited an old family house there, probably going to sell. |
North Brentwood has fascinating history. It’s sad that the museum there didn’t survive Covid I don’t think. There’s an old segregation barrier between Brentwood and North Brentwood that is supposedly being turned into a park. |
How come there are still so many white people there then? |
Should have clarified. When the neighborhoods surrounding university park (basically all of west hyatt, and all of CP minus old town) started becoming predominantly Hispanic in the 90’s and 2000’s, a lot of the waspy folks left university park for MoCo and who knows where else. Now UP itself is still predominantly white, just significantly more of the crunchy, more liberal type folks versus when I was growing up back when it was a WASP fest. A lot of professors at UMD live there now. |
He lived in the Hollywood neighborhood of College Park, which has lots of sex offenders nearby. |
No. |
Where did they go? I don't think UP is crunchy at all. Are you confusing it with Hyattsville? |
