You People movie on Netflix

I watched another movie with the same on Netflix. It was set in Verona, Italy, titled "Love at the Villa." Race wasn't an integral part of the story, except when she described him as "Thor" because he was so big.

Is this a trend that younger audiences want to see in movies and tv series or is it reflective of what is going on in real life? I see it in commercials, too. In the couple, the man is white and the woman is black.

In real life, it doesn't sound like black women see these as great matches. Any thoughts? I have not found any sources online discussing this.

???? I know plenty of black women with white men. It’s not some new phenomenon at all. lol you need to get out more.

What a weird comment, PP. I for one am glad they are branching out from just the black/minority male with a white female. Black and other minority women deal with a lot regarding beauty standards. I appreciate that they are showing that different types of women are attractive to everyone.

20 years ago, I only knew interracial couples where the woman was white. No, I know multiple of all combinations and multiple with a black woman/white or other man. Times are changing for the better!

Other than The Jeffersons where Lamont's mother was black and his father was white, I don't recall as many interracial couples in the media.

The past two years, I see a lot in commercials, movies, and TV.

You never saw jungle fever oh gawd

The movie had its moments, but I give it only a 5.5 out of 10. Jonah Hill looks way too old for this part, there was no real chemistry between the two protagonists, and Eddie Murphy just seemed like a condescending not-very-funny ass (I don’t think he was acting….I think he was really miserable & hated the script).

David Duchovny might have been the saving Grace of the film. Also Jonah’s podcast partner had some good moments.

Overall, I probably wouldn’t recommend the movie.

I kinda wish Larry David was Hill’s father. I think he and Eddie Murphy could’ve really mixed it up.

Most of these are movies.

Jungle Fever (Spike Lee movie)
Guess Who's Coming to Dinner (Sydney Portier)
Lakeview Terrace (Samuel Jackson, Kerry Washington)
Monster's Ball (Halley Berry, Billy Bob Thorton)
Save The Last Dance (Julia Styles)
Guess Who (Ashton Kutcher, Bernie Mac)
Something New (Sanaa Lathan)
The Bodyguard (Whitney, Kevin Kostner)
Parenthood (Dax Shepard and Joy Bryant)

Lamont was Fred Sanford's son. Lionel was George Jefferson's son. Jenny was Tom Willis's, the white guy's, daughter.

LOL There's been plenty of stuff, the pp was clearly not in tune to it.

Roxie Roker, who played Helen, Tom's wife, was in an interracial relationship in real life. Lenny Kravitz is her son.

I'm the PP who got my sitcoms mixed up. Thanks. I forgot Jenny was the daughter of the interracial couple, and Lionel was the son of the Jeffersons.

Lamont was the son on Sanford and Son.

Just my opinion. Some white men might be very intimidated to approach or ask out a black woman. I don't think it's unusual in cities.

Also, the newest SCOTUS, Ketanji Brown Jackson is married to a white man. The Vice President Kamala Harris is also married to a white man.

As for the movie, "You People," I think it could have been more like "My Big Fat Greek Wedding." Maybe the story could focus more on the two different cultures or religions. There is a bit of a schism between Muslims and Jews, traditionally you might say.

Or maybe "You People" could have been more about an upper class Black family of the Jack and Jill social circle not wanting their daughter to marry a white man without any type of pedigree.

For some families, it's very important to be able to trace your family tree or family origin.

Remember the movie "A Walk in the Clouds," how much the father of the wine-making family of Mexican heritage hated the Keanu Reeves character because he was a nobody from nowhere?

It was an OK movie, nothing special. I laughed a few times and was also a bit annoyed at times.

I could not get over how Jonah Hill looked. I know that sounds bad but he was distracting. The main lady was beautiful.

I think it was trying too hard to do things that it was not capable of. 5/10.

Jonah Hill’s brother died unexpectedly at age 40. I think Jonah looks great but for those that don’t think so: trauma ages a person. Just saying
