Yup

This election is happening right now in VA Beach. If you know people and care about abortion rights, please get involved. Groups all over the DMV are phonebanking and a few groups will be going down to canvass the weekend of January 7th. Rouse is an exceptional candidate. Former NFL player, VT Hokie and current City Council lawmaker. He's deeply involve in the community but this is a special election so it will be ALL about voter turn out. This is Youngkin's backyard and there are indications he's looking for a win after doing so terribly with his national tour.

It's also not just about Virginia. Abortion is banned in basically all of the states South of VA. NC might be able to hold on to some legal abortion but they continue to have a GOP dominated State legislature. Over a third of the women in the US live in Southern States. This would make it all the harder for those women to get access to lifesaving healthcare.

He sounds like a great candidate.

He seems like a great candidate. I met him while visiting family down there a few weeks ago. I don't know if it was at a planned event or what, but he and some others were roaming a shopping development down there and stopped me. Even after I told him I was from NOVA and not eligible to vote in the special election, he continued to chat with me and listed his position on various topics. That was a very solid move, IMO. He cares about the issues and the people of VA not just those in his immediate voting area. Much respect!

I'm seriously worried for you all who thinks this will happen. THIS WILL NEVER HAPPEN, Democrats control the Senate. So these "the sky is falling" posts are getting tiresome.

I'm sure you said the same thing about R v. W.

What are you doing to make sure the Democrats will continue to control the Senate? Or to help them regain the House of Delegates?

“Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s (R) push for a 15-week abortion ban died late Wednesday evening when a state Senate subcommittee blocked the ban along with two other restrictions.
The education and health committee blocked the proposed abortion restrictions with a 9-5 vote, officially defeating the 15-week ban, a near-total ban and a ban on the procedure later in pregnancy. Although the near-total abortion restriction was more extreme, the 15-week ban was the focus for many Virginia Republicans after Youngkin made it a priority in his December budget proposal.”

Roe V. Wade limits. It was a great compromise.
